Today sees the launch of a brand new commission by Manifold Editions: Marc Quinn Sphinx, two intricately detailed silkscreen prints, in gold and silver leaf, of the artist’s well-known sculpture of supermodel Kate Moss - her limbs contorted in an extreme yoga pose! “She is a contemporary version of the Sphinx, a mystery,” says the artist of La Moss. “There must be something about her that has clicked with the collective unconscious to make her so ubiquitous, so spirit of the age.” The new contemporary online gallery and art publisher will show the prints as part of their first public exhibition at Front Room in St Martins Lane alongside further brand-new prints by Quinn and Damien Hirst and others by Gary Hume, Elizabeth Magill and 2011 Turner Prize nominee George Shaw.

The images of Moss, from £960, will be exclusively available to buy for one day only at Front Room on 10 May and thereafter online from Manifold Editions.

Exhibition runs 10– 27 May, Monday-Friday, 11am-7pm and noon – 6pm Saturday and Sunday, at the Front Room, St Martins Lane, 45 St Martin’s Lane WC2. www.manifoldeditions.com

Since last Friday designers, models, bloggers, fashionistas and rock stars have swept the streets in one svelt sweep. One could certainly be forgiven for forgetting that a world outside Burberry, Victoria Beckham’s eye bags and 'the' Mary Katrantzou Topshop dress exists.

Nevertheless, with February's fashion frenzy and the big freeze finally over, sunnier skies and Spring offer a great chance to get reenergised with new ideas. So if you want some fresh inspiration, then put The 'WIE' Symposium (‘Women Inspiration and Enterprise') in your diary. WIE Symposium is the brainchild of June Sarpong (former T4 presenter) and Dee Poku, created to motivate and educate women by hosting key women speakers from the worlds of business, politics, fashion and entertainment to lead a series of panels and workshops.

WIE Symposium launched in New York last year and talks from Donna Karen, Nancy Pelosi, Queen Rania of Jordan and Christy Turlington were a huge hit. This year, WIE Symposium will take place in London on International Women’s Day, Thursday 8th March with some equally compelling talks from Jo Malone, Jo Elvin, Kathy Lette, Lynn de Rothschild, Lynne Franks and Julie Meyer amongst others. The talks will include; Tools for the Entrepreneur, Women and Leadership, Women in Media, The Luxury Industry and Financial Tools for Success. The day will also launch the WIE Mentorship Scheme – a program designed to provide long term support and advice from leading businesswomen to young women about to embark on their careers.

The event will take place at The Hospital Club in London and tickets are available at www.wienetwork.org at £150.00 per person.

If you want to get inspired, WIE is your chance.

Beverly Hills Hotel Oscar Menu

February 10, 2012

Hollywood is hotting up for awards season - and whilst all of the stars are fussing over red carpet couture and penning the perfect acceptance speech, film fans are relaxing - not only at the cinema, but at the luxurious Polo Lounge, where an Oscar Cocktail Menu is making a timely appearance!

The Polo Lounge has long been the haunt of the Hills' hallowed residents; located within The Beverly Hills Hotel, it is the epitome of Los Angeles glamour. The Oscar Cocktail Menu features carefully thought out drinks inspired by this year's nine nominees for Best Picture. Enjoyed the silent phenomenon The Artist? Try the Silence is Golden, a glittering mix of Karlson's Gold Vodka, lemon juice, mint syrup and club soda. Taken by Spielberg's War Horse? The French 75, named after the potent weapon held by the French field artillery of WWI, combines gun, lemon juice, and sugar, topped up with bubbling Moet champagne.

The Polo Lounge is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily; the Oscar Cocktail Menu is available now until Sunday 26th February, when the Best Picture winner will be crowned. See www.beverlyhillshotel.com or call 001 310 276 2251 for more information.

It’s all about the music right now at St Martin’s Lane hotel with The Front Room’s new pop-up exhibition, Love Buzz, from London photographer Bella Howard. Presented as collage, it’s a vibrant mash-up of the fanzines she started making in her teens interspersed with candid yet stylised shots from popstars to models being effortlessly beautiful at an ultra-hip line-up of parties, festivals and road trips – Corinne Day in glorious technicolour. And ‘that’ NME cover of Marmite pop sensation Lana del Rey – yup that was a Bella special too – believe it or not, originally shot for a style page in GQ! But although her passion lies in music, the fashion world may have something to say about that as she’s shot both March and April ‘More Dash than Cash’ features for UK Vogue and is off to Ibiza today to shoot the campaign for Swarovski’s new cool kid diffusion line Lola & Grace - “I can’t wait to get some sun.” There’s also talk of working with Antipodium during LFW – she’s already wearing the clothes after all – but if past form is anything to go by, we guarantee the result will be way more rock ‘n’ roll than your average calwalk shots.

Storm for Simon

August 10, 2009

Kate-Moss-001

Can this be happening, Simon Fuller taking over the world?

He certainly is trying. After taking over the music industry in both the UK and America Simon Fuller is now taking control of the fashion world. His company 19 Entertainment has just acquired 51% (a controlling stake) in the world famous Storm Model Agency that represents models and starts including Kate Moss, Cindy Crawford, Lily Cole and Emma Watson.

19 Entertainment is the company behind brands American Idol and Victoria and David Beckhams luxury label as well as designer Roland Mouret, singer Kelly Clarkson and Scottish tennis player Andy Murray. This makes 19 Entertainment one the largest management firms in the world covering fashion, music and sport.

Simon Fuller founded 19 in 1985 and named it after his first client, Paul Hardcastles hit record about the Vietnam was. In 2005 CKX bought the agency for an estimated $195 million. 19's strategy and aim has always been to form strong relationships and partnerships with 'high-value entertainment companies or individuals.'

'Storm Models is one of those special companies with a unique sense of style and integrity,' said Simon Fuller. 'With 19 moving more into the world of fashion and style, the opportunity to join forces with Storm and its incredible heritage and dynamic approach to the future, was irresistible. Together we can push the boundaries, blur the lines and redefine what a model agency should be in this fast moving world where fashion is playing an increasingly important role in setting and reflecting culture and tastes'

Sarah Doukas founded Storm Model Agency nearly 22 years ago with a mission to discovering new modeling talent. 'Storm has exceeded my expectations and I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved to date,' commented Sarah Doukas. 'We are a London-based business and it has long been my plan to develop and broaden the agency to benefit our incredible talent, and to work directly with my own teams in other influential areas. Working with Simon Fuller and 19 will provide Storm with the opportunity to work competitively, creatively and on an international level'.

Skate Almighty

August 6, 2009

When getting dressed for an event called Skate Almighty one would naturally think that 4 inch heels and a mini dress was not what one should wear. Well, this was exactly what a number of the guests attending the opening of Nokia's Skate Almighty at Potters Field Park by Tower Bridge thought they should wear. So those dressed to impress rather then skate stood and watched as the rest of the guests whirled around to the the DJ sets.

With the summer weather finally pulling through the evening turned out to be extremely enjoyable as everyone chilled out on the grass drinking beers and munched on hotdogs and chips. Jake Tweed and Bianca Gascoigne fooled around for the cameras on their skates as Kimberley Stewart relaxed quietly out of the hype with good friend Kelly Osbourne.

This years Face of the Event was Little Boots who later entertained the crowd with an energetic performance with Tower Bridge as her background. Nokia Skate Almighty will continue until Sunday 9th August with other music artists like Calvin Harris, The Rakes, The Pipettes and Queen of Noize performing over the next few days. To get skating and dancing, fans need to visit the official Nokia website for free tickets.

Nokia Skate Almighty, Potters Field Park, Tower Bridge, London August 5th - 9th.

Alpha Female

The annual Forbes Celebrity 100 Power List has been unleashed, and pushing us all into insignificance is Mrs Jolie-Pitt herself, Angelina - Queen of the Celebs.

Judged on a mix of annual earnings and media visibility,  the Forbes list determines those public figures whose influence has spread globally into the very material of our everyday lives. Jolie has pushed Oprah Winfrey from her top spot, despite earning less than a tenth of her wage, showing just how powerful the Jolie brand has become. Interestingly more so than her husband's profile (he ranked ninth...one place behind Jennifer Aniston, that is). Indeed it was a great year for women generally, with the highest male, Tiger Woods, coming in fifth. Forbes spokeswoman Lacey Rose called it the "year of the woman. What we see at the top of the list is tabloid-targeted people who command a big attraction through their artistic work and at the news stands".

In terms of nationality, Britain ranked fairly poorly with Coldplay coming in top at fifteenth, and the list allowed no praise for this year's golden girl actress Kate Winslet, or the nation's favourite foul-mouthed chef Gordon Ramsay. Elsewhere, Barack Obama charged forward with his plight to change history by becoming the first sitting president to feature on the list, thanks to the sales of his books and obviously the intense press coverage surrounding him during the election.

Russell and Helen

April 22, 2009

Russell Crowe and Helen Mirren swished down the red carpet last night at the Empire cinema for the premiere of their new film State of Play.

Both actors looked preened and polished and laughed together playfully on the carpet defying their years and showing the younger stars how a masterful show between co stars is executed.

'I got to boss Russell around which was fabulous,' cooed Mirren, clearly loving every minute.

'If you ever get bossed around, I recommend you get bossed around by Helen Mirren,' replied a cheeky Crowe, flashing his aviators.

The sun shined well into the evening so this was one of the first premieres of the year where brollies were swapped for sunglasses and there were smiles all round. ''I don't think I have ever been to a sunny premiere in London...so this is a brand new experience,' a slim Crowe added.

Other stars Charles Dance and singer Jamelia also attended.
