Taste By Appointment

May 14, 2012

Grey Goose Vodka are launching an interesting - and worthwhile - event this summer. Want to get involved? Wait til you hear about it ...

Taste by Appointment .. as it's being labelled ... is a campaign which will set out to help cocktail aficionados be able to select the perfect cocktail with greater ease.

They are going to help us along our way by launching two tools with which to do this.

First? Taste by Appointment consumer events, where guests will not only be welcomed with a Grey Goose Le Fizz reception, but will all be guaranteed to leave with a greater understanding of cocktail-enjoyment after a furious round of taste experiments.

Next, there's a Grey Goose website which will help answer all questions cocktail novices might have about which tipple might suit them best. Watch the likes of Gerard Coleman, founder of Artisan du Chocolat, among others, talk you through various drink-inspired videos.

Taking place across a number of iconic venues in London, Taste By Appointment is a unique opportunity to discover something new, with the help of various Tastemakers. The next event is being held at Gordon Ramsay's Bread Street Kitchen on 22nd May, but check the website for the remaining event dates and locations, too. Tickets are priced at £75.

You may want to head to Vivek Singh's Cinnamon Kitchen come May 15.

Why?

Well, the executive chef at Tuddenham Mill in Suffolk, Paul Foster (who was named as Young Chef of 2011 by Observer Food Monthly and up-and-coming chef to watch in 2012 by Good Food Guide), is moving his pots and pans in for one very special day.

Grab your tickets for a very reasonable £40-a-head and enjoy some of his extraordinary guest-cheffing. On the menu, he's preparing a menu which he is describing as 'natural modern British'. There'll be hazelnut and chickweed, organic salmon, asparagus, mugwort juice, slow-cooked cauliflower and an Indian dish with a twist: tandoor lamb rump, fennel, quinoa and yoghurt.

You've got to taste it to believe it. Reserve your seat at this 16-seat Tandoor grill online now.

Rioja Capital

May 4, 2012

Now that we are all, to some degree, food and wine connoisseurs, is there anything better than a perfectly cooked dinner with expertly chosen wine pairings?

Even better if said wine pairings are Rioja. On Monday, 21st May, the Spanish favourite is taking pride of place at the Capital Hotel restaurant, located in the heart of Knightsbridge. The four course meal will be accompanied by some of the finest bottles from the Bodegas Roda vineyard, introduced by winemaker and oenologue Gonzalo Lainez. Gonzalo will be hosting the club table, to share the experience with fellow food and wine fans, and to discuss tasting notes!

The Capital's sister food hotspot, Le Metro Wine Bar and Bistro, will also be getting into the party spirit with a Spanish theme taking over the kitchens for the week commencing 21 May. Think tapas-style servings of chorizo, gazpacho and tortilla, accompanied by a Rioja available at only £22 a bottle. The climate may be a little off this May, but it's time to sit back, relax and soak up a more Spanish way of living in SW1.

For more information on the Capital Hotel and its restaurants, see www.capitalhotel.co.uk or contact Caroline Warwick on 020 7722 5466

Lyle goes Royal

May 3, 2012

We're nudging ever nearer to the festivities for the Queen's Jubilee - and it seems even one of our most-loved brands is getting its party hat on.

Lyle's Golden Syrup, which is made in the exact same way and manufactured on the same spot on the banks of the Thames since Abraham Lyle founded his sugar refinery there in over 125 years, is marking the special June date by a change in look.

It is to change its tin for the first time since 1904, the date when the historical and traditional “lion and bees” image was registered as Lyle’s trademark. Steeped in history, the picture referrs to an Old Testament story in which Samson killed a lion, and saw that bees had formed honeycomb in the lion’s carcass.

But to commemorate the Jubilee, the iconic design - which normally reads “Out of the strong came forth sweetness” - will be altered to “Happy and Glorious”. A crown will replace the Lion.

Now there's really no excuse for not getting in the mood - even the sugary foods are at it!

That said, The Roof Gardens is launching the perfect tonic for the (hopefully) better weather to come..

The Rooftop Film Club is crash landing on 30th April at the Roof Gardens, which means you'll be able to go and watch a selection of British film classics amid the beautiful outdoor surroundings of the 1.5 acre serene gardens, which sit 100ft above the noisy and ever-busy Kensington High Street.

First on at the Rooftop Film Club on 30th April, is Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Notting Hill is next on 7th May, Educating Rita on 13th May, The Queen is on 4th June and 'Wimbledon', starring Kirsten Dunst, is showing on 10th June.

There are old-fashioned sweets, popcorn and fish and chips to be purchased from all the on-hand stalls which line the pretty and comfortable seating area.

Rooftop Film Club is described as the 'exciting outdoor film experience showing classic, cult and recent film releases on established roof top venues' and this time... they're in a venue near you. Don't miss out.
