Taste By Appointment

May 14, 2012

Grey Goose Vodka are launching an interesting - and worthwhile - event this summer. Want to get involved? Wait til you hear about it ...

Taste by Appointment .. as it's being labelled ... is a campaign which will set out to help cocktail aficionados be able to select the perfect cocktail with greater ease.

They are going to help us along our way by launching two tools with which to do this.

First? Taste by Appointment consumer events, where guests will not only be welcomed with a Grey Goose Le Fizz reception, but will all be guaranteed to leave with a greater understanding of cocktail-enjoyment after a furious round of taste experiments.

Next, there's a Grey Goose website which will help answer all questions cocktail novices might have about which tipple might suit them best. Watch the likes of Gerard Coleman, founder of Artisan du Chocolat, among others, talk you through various drink-inspired videos.

Taking place across a number of iconic venues in London, Taste By Appointment is a unique opportunity to discover something new, with the help of various Tastemakers. The next event is being held at Gordon Ramsay's Bread Street Kitchen on 22nd May, but check the website for the remaining event dates and locations, too. Tickets are priced at £75.

You may want to head to Vivek Singh's Cinnamon Kitchen come May 15.

Why?

Well, the executive chef at Tuddenham Mill in Suffolk, Paul Foster (who was named as Young Chef of 2011 by Observer Food Monthly and up-and-coming chef to watch in 2012 by Good Food Guide), is moving his pots and pans in for one very special day.

Grab your tickets for a very reasonable £40-a-head and enjoy some of his extraordinary guest-cheffing. On the menu, he's preparing a menu which he is describing as 'natural modern British'. There'll be hazelnut and chickweed, organic salmon, asparagus, mugwort juice, slow-cooked cauliflower and an Indian dish with a twist: tandoor lamb rump, fennel, quinoa and yoghurt.

You've got to taste it to believe it. Reserve your seat at this 16-seat Tandoor grill online now.

Silence is golden at cabaret supperclub Volupté with an all-new season of silent movies. The series begins 6 May with a launch party complete with a DJ on the decks, shots at the bar and flapper dresses on the floor transporting film fans back to a bygone era of glitz and glamour. Then every first Sunday of the month at 7pm the downstairs Cabaret Salon will be transformed into an old-world theatre with a pianist tinkling the ivories as guests are seated by dickie-bow-wearing usherettes. First up is Piccadilly this Sunday with 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea on 1 June. Snack on sweet-and-salty popcorn and pick ‘n’ mix sweets from The Bon Bon Bar upstairs or mini burgers and hotdogs while a vintage cocktail list comes packed with pre-prohibition poisons created especially for Cine Illuminé soirées.  Tickets £7 in advance, £8 on the door or £10 per person for a table.

Street Feast

May 3, 2012

There’s also a fully licensed cocktail bar and street artists will be performing live artwork from 5pm to midnight. Confirmed traders include: Big Apple Hot Dogs, The Rib Man, Home Slice and Kimchi Cult. But if you don’t want to eat on the go try the uber-posh Car Wash Dining Room covered by a canopy borrowed from the market in case (when) it rains. Waiters will be on hand to pick up any chosen dishes you'd like from the traders and cocktails (Undercarriage Sparkler, Fully Service, High Pressure Wax and Rust Inhibitor anyone?) and wine from the bar while you can take the weight off.

Mr Parsons Bar

April 26, 2012

This week there’s a new bar is opening in Parson’s Green. Step through Mr Parson’s ancient wooden doors and into his living room - a brooding mix of rare, vintage William Morris fabrics, Vivienne Westwood wallpaper and unique items he has collected on his travels. Oh yes and there’s also a portrait of Made in Chelsea’s Francis Boulle. You couldn’t make it up. But if that doesn’t grab you, you’re sure to love the extensive wine list and exciting boutique spirit cocktails from Old School to Nouveaux. Mr Parsons’ handpicked staff (Jack Wills but better looking we hear) are ready to advise you on your ‘Tuesday’ wine or tickle your taste buds with a uniquely named cocktail such as the ‘Mr Wallace’ – it’s named after Mr P’s tailor – who else?!

Rooftop Film Club

April 16, 2012

It might not feel like it right now, but Spring has officially 'sprung', which means summery outdoor activities are just around the corner. Shoreditch venue the Queen of Hoxton is very pleased to announce the return of its hugely popular Rooftop Film Club, launching on 1st May and running all the way through to the end of August.

The rooftop at the Queen has everything required for a night out - bar, food, a massive screen and one of the best film programs in town. May's line-up alone is enough to induce some serious movie nostalgia. Child of the Eighties? Ferris Bueller, Top Gun and the Bodyguard are right up your alley. More classical tastes? Revel in Casablanca, Breakfast at Tiffany's or the infamous, The Graduate.

The venue is showing five films every week, from Sunday to Thursday, at a cost of £10 per person (tickets available now at www.rooftopfilmclub.com). Get there from 8pm to nab a comfy seat, fill up on grilled goodies and snuggle down for the screenings at 9pm. We'll catch you on the rooftop.

Afternoon Tease

April 10, 2012

Kettner's have just announced the launch of their devilish new hen party package, the Champagne Afternoon Tease, bringing together the classic delights of an afternoon tea with the hottest trend to hit clubs, bars and fashion - the glamourous art of burlesque.

The 'Tease' was inspired by the hugely successful Kettner's Coquette events, and starts with a full afternoon tea in one the private rooms, washed down with a glass of champagne and the chance to order a demure-looking pot of 'MarTEAni'. The hen can then choose to add either the Pout and Proud package, to pamper her party - think mini-manicures, smoky eyes, fluttering fake lashes - or the more daring Tease to Please, led by top burlesque performer Ruby Deshabille. One 30 minute class will have you dancing seductively along the most average of pavements, and is the perfect antidote to the more traditional hen packages.

Whichever option you choose, you and your party of revellers are sure to leave looking and feeling beautiful, just in time for the big day. The Champagne Afternoon Tease is priced at £30 per person, with the add-on classes an additional £15 per guest. To book your event, contact the Kettner's team on 020 7734 6112 or events@kettners.com
