Blakes Hotel & Restaurant

...wish you a very global Christmas Stephanie Hirschmiller Thursday, November 24, 2011

Original boutique hotel Blakes is beloved by designers and celebrities in equal measure – not least Gwyneth Paltrow! The original boutique hotel created by Anouska Hempel back in 1978, is packed full of eclectic artefacts from all over the world amassed by the designer during her globe-hopping from China to Cambodia.

Just like the famously discreet hotel itself, Blake’s decadent subterranean restaurant is a well-kept Chelsea secret with walls decorated with fans made from the feathers of exotic birds with the cuisine drawing its inspiration from all corners of the globe.

So if you’re dreaming of Christmas in a far flung destination, Blake’s special festive lunch and dinner menu might just be the ticket and at £50.00 per person for lunch and £70.00 per person for dinner, is considerably less expensive than a couple of weeks in the Maldives.

But cast aside ideas of turkey with all the trimmings. You’ll start with Terrine of foie gras with toasted walnut bread or Burrata tomato and fig salad and choice mains include Roasted red leg partridge with foie gras and red wine jus or Blake’s famous Miso black cod. And who wants roast potatoes or Brussels sprouts when you can have side orders of Truffle mash and Cumin spinach? Desserts are traditional with a twist and feature Christmas pudding ice cream, Chocolate fondant with cranberry ice cream and Gold saki jelly with passion fruit cream.

Then either check into one of the hotel’s sumptuous suites for the night or repair to the 'Chinese Room' adjoining the restaurant for after dinner drinks amid slipper orchids and flickering candles. It’s dedicated to Coco Chanel and Marlene Dietrich so you’ll certainly be in fashionable company.
