Carom

Carom

Spice up your life Stephanie Hirschmiller Wednesday, November 2, 2011

D&D Restaurant group behind such London stalwarts as Bluebird Chelsea, Launceston Place, La Pont de la Tour and Quaglino’s is launching its first Indian restaurant on Wardour Street on the site of the former Meza.

Following the success of a pop-up programme featuring star turns from the likes of Michelin star winner, Atul Kochhar and The Modern Pantry’s Anna Hansen, contemporary restaurant and lounge bar Carom will specialise in regional Indian cuisine.

Carom is named after an Indian spice (and a game but more of that later) and will offer a suitably spicy menu based around a sharing concept with dishes in a variety of sizes allowing diners to tailor their menu to their appetite – and their pocket. Dishes, divided into sections from The Clay Tandoor to Regional, Vegetables, Breads, Rice and Accompaniments, start at as little as £3 and reach the heady realms of a tenner.

Menu highlights include Crisp Tiger Prawns ‘Dikshin’ Spices and Curry Leaves; Chilli Fried Squid ‘Mirch Makeli,’ Luknowi Lamb, Cucumber and Mint Yoghurt, Kerala Sea Bass with Curry Leaf, Mango, Coconut and Ginger Sauce; Goan Spiced Beef with Pepper and Coconut, Kashmiri Style Braised Lamb Rogan Josh and Tandoori Pineapple with Star Anise and Fennel Seed.

And if you’ve never taste Indian wines and whisky, now’s your chance. Expect to imbibe a range never before seen in London including the full line-up of single malts from the Amrut distillery in Bangalore alongside a cocktail list with premium spirits blended with Indian herbs and spices. As for pre and post-prandial entertainment, how’s about perfecting your prowess at another Carom, an Indian table top game which is a combination of billiards and shuffleboard?

Opening 1 November
