Launching today, this seriously gorgeous bar is inspired by Pichin, most distinguished bartender in South American history and the best possible excuse for finishing January detox but a smidgeon early. Serving a selection of authentic cocktails from the 1930s and 40s, alongside innovative drinks with an Argentine heritage, Galante promises old-school glamour and contemporary sophistication in spades.
Santiago Policastro aka Pichin, was renowned throughout Latin America both for his remarkable serves and for the inimitable style that earned him the name ʻEl Barman Galanteʼ and the Art-Deco influenced bar evokes the dazzling cocktail era of Buenos Aires with a contemporary twist.
Bar Director Lance Perkins has collaborated with Tato Giovanonni (voted South Americaʼs Best Bartender of the Decade in 2010) to offer a collection of original cocktails created by Pichin back in 1935. Served in crystal cut glassware, the menu also features a contemporary selection of recipes inspired by Pichinʼs legacy including the El Pato (gin, sweet and dry vermouth, Campari and Cointreau), named after Argentinaʼs national sport. Soak it all up with small dishes such as sweet and savoury copetines (and yes that does include detox-friendly Ceviche) together with bespoke Argentine pastries served on elegant silver stands.
The intimate 70-cover bar evokes the classic service style of the early 20th-century with staff decked out in traditional white jackets and chic black dresses.
