Love cheese? Well prepare to say ‘formaggio’ because coming soon to Canary Wharf’s Wintergarden is the first standalone London restaurant from Italian favourite, Obikà, brainchild of Bulgari Hotels and Resorts Executive VP, Silvio Ursini.
Conceived back in 2004 as the world’s first mozzarella bar, Obikà, meaning “here it is” in Italy’s Neapolitan dialect, boasts ten restaurants in Italy plus worldwide franchises in Istanbul, Tokyo, Toronto, LA and New York. All the mozzarellas served come from PDO areas (Protected Designation of Origin), mainly Piana del Sale and Agro Pontino, and are hand cut and produced exclusively using buffalo milk.
Said cheeses can be ordered with a range of accompaniments such as Prosciutto Crudo di Parma, Bresaola della Valtellina and Isle of Ewe smoked salmon. You can also tuck into antipasti such as Caponata alla Siciliana (aubergine casserole), Crostini with organic tomatoes plus salads and hot dishes including Schiaffoni di Gragnano (pasta with Mozzarella di Bufala Campana and tomato sauce).
So far so good but no mozzarella menu would be complete without pizza and this comes freshly baked using stone ground PETRA flour and artisanal dough which is left to rise for 48 hours rendering the base exceptionally light and easily digestible.
The space, located in the airy, glass clad West Wintergarden, will consist of a 90-cover bar and restaurant, glass counter takeaway area at the front and 40-seater al fresco terrace. Drop by for an early evening Aperitivo drink served alongside a selection of tapas-style dishes and get acquainted with the Wharf’s new resident.
Opening December
