Having shot to fame for styling the British public in Channel 4’s How To Look Good Naked, Gok Wan has since turned his hand to the cookery world, inspiring the nation to pick up their chopsticks and whip up an Asian feast at home. 

He’s recently partnered with Itsu, the high street East Asian-inspired fast food chain, to create some delicious Asian-inspired healthy dishes that you can enjoy at home. From an easy gyoza stir fry to Gok’s favourite chicken ramen, Gok shares his four favourite recipes with us. Expect fresh ingredients fused together with bursts of flavour that are guaranteed to hit the spot.

Easy Gyoza Stir-Fry

This could easily becoming a favourite weekday staple. It is so quick to make and is bursting with flavour. Gyozas are one the most popular Japanese dishes and they sit perfectly on top of this stir fry dish. This is a perfect healthy lunch idea and will be ready in 10 minutes!

Serves 2

Prep: 10 mins 

INGREDIENTS

8 itsu vegetable fusion gyoza

1 red pepper 

4 tenderstem broccoli 

1 small courgette

Soy sauce

Olive oil 

Coriander

Method

  1. Cut the broccoli in half lengthways & finely slice the red onion, pepper and courgette. 
  2. Pan-fry the gyoza as per pack instructions. 
  3. While the gyoza are cooking, put your wok [or another frying pan] on a medium heat and add a glug of olive oil. 
  4. Once hot, add the onions and pepper and fry until they start to soften. Then add the broccoli and courgette with a few dashes of soy sauce and fry for a further 5 mins, stirring frequently. 
  5. Once the broccoli is tender, plate up your stir-fry veg and top with the pan-fried gyoza. 
  6. Finish with a splash of soy and some fresh herbs. 

Miso Veg & Gyoza Noodles 

This gyoza noodle dish will be ready on your table within 20 minutes. It is really tasty dish with lots of fresh vegetables. Perfect for a quick lunch or healthy light dinner as a family.

Serves 2

Prep: 5 mins 

INGREDIENTS

1 itsu classic ramen brilliantbroth 

8 itsu vegetable fusion gyoza

1 sachet itsu misoeasy traditional 

2 portions ‘heat & eat’ udon noodles 

2 baby pak choi 

4 baby corn 

Sesame seeds

Coriander

Method

  1. Pour the classic ramen brilliantbroth into a saucepan and heat to a simmer. 
  2. Empty your misoeasy sachet into a bowl and mix. 
  3. Cut the pak choi and baby corn down the centre then brush the cut sides of the veg with miso’easy and grill or pan fry ‘cut side down’ until golden [about 5 mins]
  4. Place the gyoza into the broth and simmer for 3 mins. 
  5. Carefully remove the gyoza and place to one side, then add the udon noodles to the broth and leave to stand for 2 mins.
  6. Divide the noodles & broth between two bowls. 
  7. Finish with coriander and a pinch of sesame seeds.

Gok’s Chicken Ramen

This is an easy homemade chicken ramen with fresh tenderstem broccoli, a soft boiled egg with lots of light delicious noodles in a flavoursome broth. It is simple to make and will be ready on the table within 20 minutes.

Serves 2

Prep: 5 mins

INGREDIENTS

1 itsu chicken ramen brilliantbroth

1 chicken breast 

2 eggs

2 portions of fresh or dry ramen noodles 

4 tenderstem broccoli 

1 chilli

Method

  1. Grill or pan fry the chicken breast with salt, pepper and olive oil [about 10 mins on each side]
  2. Boil your egg [about 6 mins from room temp for a medium yolk], and then submerge in cold water before peeling. 
  3. While the chicken & eggs are on the go, cook the noodles as per pack instructions. 
  4. Pour the chicken ramen brilliantbroth into a saucepan and heat to a simmer. 
  5. Cut the tenderstem broccoli length ways and steam for 3 minutes. 
  6. When the noodles are cooked separate them into two bowls and pour over the simmering brilliantbroth. 
  7. Top with the sliced chicken breast, tenderstem broccoli and a boiled egg, halved. 
  8. Finish with some finely chopped chilli.

Gok’s Easy Dipping Sauce

Gyozas are delicious dumplings filled with meat and vegetables and Gok has made the perfect dipping sauce to compliment them. You only need 4 ingredients and a couple minutes to spare to make this dip.

Serves 2-3 

Cook: 5 mins

 

INGREDIENTS

10 itsu frozen gyoza [available in supermarkets nationwide]

2 tbsp soy sauce

1 tbsp vinegar [any]

 

1 tbsp honey

½ tbsp sesame oil

Method

  1. Pan-fry / steam the gyoza as per pack instructions.  
  2. Whilst gyoza are cooking, mix dipping sauce ingredients together. 
  3. Dip & enjoy!
