As I sit writing this, it’s a Friday afternoon and I’m mentally preparing myself for the virtual quiz my family is hosting over Facetime tonight. There’s four groups of two, each pair has to come up with ten general knowledge questions and five specialist questions on a subject of their choice. I’m going to be honest, I haven’t even thought about writing my questions yet. There’s nothing like a bit of last minute cramming, but I might look to join in on one of these virtual pub quizzes for a helping hand…
While pubs, restaurants and bars may have closed their doors temporarily, many have taken to the online world and opened up their venues virtually, plus a few virtual ones that have been set up purely for the fun of it! With this, the online community welcomed the arrival of the virtual pub quiz. If you’re missing your weekly quiz fix, or you’re just a dab hand at holding random general knowledge facts in your head, you might want to take part in one of these virtual quizzes.
Here’s some of our favourites…
Big Drop Brew
While working from home has its pros, it can be just as stressful as a week in the office. Relieve yourself with a bit of lighthearted fun and enjoy the mega pub quiz that Big Drop Brew are throwing virtually on YouTube. Get your felt tips at the ready, beer in hand and prepare to undergo a few rounds of fun general knowledge questions. It certainly helps to make this isolation period a lot easier and fun!
Virtual Pub Quiz
Sometimes it’s the simplest of things that make all of the difference and the arrival of Jay Flynn’s virtual pub quiz is a prime example of this. Having originally set up his quiz through Facebook with the hope that a few locals from the town of Darwen, Lancashire would join in has since sparked an online movement of eager egg heads to join in on the question fuelled antics. Over 500 thousand tuned in on Thursday to answer the questions, and we certainly hope there’s another installment coming our way this week. If you haven’t already, stream the quiz and put your brain to the test!
We’re all missing scooting down the local for a quick pint more than ever right now. But, while we might not be able to head to our local boozer physically right now, we can head there virtually thanks to the arrival of Brewdog’s new Virtual Bar.
Brewdog opened their virtual doors on Friday and saw hundreds of eager beer lovers join around the virtual table for a beer and a spot of quizzing. They set up an online bar session for every Brewdog boozer in the UK, USA, Australia and Germany, and saw many rekindle over a pint. Swat up on your general knowledge, grab a pen and a scrap of paper as you’re going to want to get a taste of these prizes too.
The Big Fat Quiz
Got any plans for the weekends preceding? Nope, neither did we until we heard about the mega Big Fat Quiz that’s running on Saturday 11th April, right from your living room.
If you’re a lover of binge watching TV series, or watching countless episodes of Friends on repeat, you’re going to love this epic virtual quiz. Sharpen up on your TV general knowledge and enter for the chance to win a whole selection of tempting prizes, and donations will be going to the charities who are fighting on the frontline during these difficult times.
Camden Town Brewery
Launching in aid of Hospitality Action’s COVID-19 Emergency Appeal, last Thursday Camden Town Brewery waved hello to the first installation of their virtual lockdown lock-in. Grab yourself a cold can from the fridge and prepare yourself for a night of putting your general knowledge to the test in their virtual Thursday night pub quiz. And, if that doesn’t entice you enough to join in, the chance to win a whole load of beer freebies will!

Did someone say wine o’clock?
Whether you’re a beer lover, gin and tonic fiend or can’t get enough of a cab sav, put your alcohol (and general) knowledge to the test with Fuller’s new virtual ‘stay inn’ pub quiz. Every Wednesday you’ll have the chance to go head to head with fellow quiz heads for five rounds of trivia and beyond. You’ll get your knowledge of films, phrases and more tested so you’d better get prepared for the wildly unusual…
The Corona Arms
Comically named to fit in with these trying times, The Corona Arms welcomes lovers of booze and lighthearted chat to join in on their daily video call. Every Thursday there’s the chance to tune in for a quiz unlike any other. Bring your own booze and let the games commence.
Virtual quizzing never looked so good. Our favourite Hackney haunt Pembury Tavern launched their take on the virtual pub quiz last Monday and saw a community of eager quiz heads take part in a night of carefree, merry fun. If you fancy playing in a team with your usual go-to quiz companions, they suggest setting up your own video chat and entering once as a team. Go on, you know you want to get your hands on their booze filled prizes…
