8 Hot New Restaurants Opening This January

It’s the new year, which means there are a slew of new restaurants arriving on the scene. This month sees the arrival of a new dumpling specialist, two exciting plant-based launches and a sandwich joint that’s determined to reinvent the humble sarnie.

TH@51
On Friday 28th January, TH@51 will open its doors for the first time. The new restaurant, located at Taj 51 Buckingham Gate Suites and Residences, draws inspiration from the Treehouse rooftop bar at The Taj Dubai, and will bring the outside in through its interiors. Expect a glass dining room, rich wood cladding, a soft green and pink colour palette, and a light, airy feel throughout.
An open kitchen showcasing a theatrical Robata grill and chef’s table will take centre stage, with the menu drawing on influences from around the world. Expect signature dishes such as Burrata and kale chaat; Desi scotch egg; Moroccan poke; Korean roast; and a Paneer wellington.

The Timber Loft
Launching above The Light Bar is The Timber Loft, a new 80-cover, modern European restaurant. Having previously worked with Stevie Parle, Tristan Downes will be taking the lead as head chef, offering an array of delicious, refined dishes.
Feature dishes include celeriac and winter tomato terrine; brioche crostini; squash ravioli, fried sage and chestnut; and confit duck leg with roscoff onion and red cabbage.
Opening up in January, the restaurant will also offer a special Veganuary tasting menu, featuring dishes such as Jerusalem artichoke gnocchi with artichoke crisps and nasturtium; roast squash with fregola, porcini, calvo and salsa verde; and passito granita, muscatel grape and roasted pear panna cotta with caramel and basil.
Interiors wise, expect original exposed beams and skylights that frame the ‘loft’ feel. There’ll be a range of teal and green accent colours too, marble bar counters and copper finishes.

Yolk
Nothing quite beats a humble sandwich for lunch, but for days when you can’t be bothered to make your own, Yolk is the perfect place to indulge in the great culinary creation. Founder of the fine fast food outlet, Nick Philpot, is launching a third site in Soho’s Golden Square this January, bringing with him the brand’s famous sandwiches and egg pots.
Expect to see sandwiches filled with freshly roasted marinated chicken and dripping in nduja mayonnaise; bacon baps with sweet-cured streaky bacon from Tom Hixson of Smithfield; and eggs Benedict using Clarence Court’s finest drenched in house-made hollandaise.

Ugly Dumpling
Ugly Dumpling has opened a brand new restaurant in Fitzrovia. The restaurant is known for bridging the gap between traditional Asian fillings and Western flavours, mixing the two together to create fresh, unique and exciting street food snacks.
Open from the 4th, the restaurant is celebrating its launch and Veganuary with a limited edition Vegan Cheeseburger Dumpling, exclusively available for the new site. Made with a pan-fried dumpling topped with Ugly Dumpling’s signature burger sauce and avocado-lime vegan mayo, and filled with a soy-bean based meat substitute and melted vegan cheese. Em Sherif
Opening at Harrods this January is Em Sherif, a new Lebanese restaurant led by Chef Mirelle Hayek. This will be the first European debut from the rising restaurant group known for its twelve restaurants spread across the Middle Eastern region, and is set to feature a restaurant and deli space.
The menu is yet to be released but it’s expected to feature a bountiful selection of meze dishes, perfect for sharing in groups or for mixing and matching over a date night. If the restaurant’s Instagram is anything to go by, we can expect a really beautiful space, decorated with blue and white tiled designs.

V Honest
Honest Burgers have kicked off the year with a bang, launching V Honest, an all new entirely plant-based burger brand. The first of its kind opened its doors in Covent Garden this month, offering Honest’s most extensive vegan range to date.
Sure to satisfy vegans, carnivores and everything in between, diners will be able to experience the brand’s classic HONEST, TRIBUTE and CHILLI burgers vegan-style for the first time ever. Alongside these hits, there are some new welcomed additions, including the BUFFALO fried chick’n burger and umami-rich TERIYAKI burger in collaboration with Fable Food Co, and delicious new sides, from buffalo tenders to pulled shiitake nuggets.

Erpingham House
Plant-based restaurant, Erpingham House has opened up a London branch this January at the wellness and lifestyle club, Cloud Twelve.
Since launching in 2018, the restaurant brand has been striving to become a place for innovative, delicious and sustainable food that delivers on taste and flavour, without compromise. It’s 100% plant-based, plastic free and mostly organic, so will fit in perfectly at Cloud Twelve.
On the menu, expect dishes such as whipped tofu parfait; seitan filet mignon; and fermented beetroot risotto. The plantain cream pie is also ticking all of the right boxes for those wanting something sweet to finish.

Ottolenghi Chelsea
Ottolenghi is set to make another scheduled arrival this month, only this time it’ll be landing on Pavilion Road, Chelsea.
The go-to spot for fresh salads and light lunches, Ottolenghi’s delis are hugely popular. Often small and petite, this new addition is set to be one of the largest delis yet. The kitchen will serve a concise menu featuring Ottolenghi signature dishes every morning, including scrambled eggs with London cured salmon, as well as a stacked salad counter for lunches and dinner.
