Towards the end of last year everyone was going mad for ‘hygge’. The Danish trend referring to taking enjoyment in life’s simple pleasures is showing no signs of slowing down, so get yourself a cinnamon bun, listen to some live music and enjoy your minimal surroundings; here is our guide to all things Nordic in London.
Barry Tonks, Head Chef of Searcys The Gherkin and personal trainer/all round health guru Clean Eating Alice. A likely combination? Definitely not, but believe it or not, they’ve teamed up to create a 6 week wellness menu. Wellness? Maybe not exactly… the menu is split in two, with one half titled ‘Saint’ the other half titled ‘Sinner’; we’re sure you can figure out who is responsible for each half. If you’re feeling saintly, try the ginger venison with miso-glazed parsnip fries, or the super seed loaf with smoked salmon and minted yoghurt. Or if, like us, you’re quite the sinner – […]
Pay tribute to one of Scotland’s national treasures at Stevie Parle’s Craft London this January. The restaurant is known for their collaborations and they’ve teamed up with Compass Box, specialists in small batch innovative whiskies, for their Burns Night celebration. Celebrating Scottish poet Robert Burns, festivities often include quintessentially Scottish foods and activities and the celebration at Craft London is no different. Indeed guests will dine on haggis, neeps and tatties (with a whisky sauce). But besides the haggis, the menu also offers pickled herring with fermented cuttlefish; cod and carrots with mead sauce; and peat monster cured salmon. To […]
Bored of your current workout routine? Tired of the route you run? You are? Us too, which is why we’re rather excited to hear that St Martin’s Lane hotel has collaborated with The Wellscene to bring you classes to shake up the routine and having you feeling your best. Inject some energy into your yoga class with Flow in the Dark Yoga. Usually, you might attend a yoga class for it’s calming and strengthening aspects and it’s low intensity style; if you’re looking for that, Flow in the Dark Yoga is probably not for you. The yoga session is held […]
We might be starting to think about spring, but the recent cold snap and ‘thunder snow’ has us reaching for the blankets and hot cocktails again. So we’ve rounded up 9 winter terraces which opened in 2016 but are still around, so you can stock up on tartiflette, fondue and gingerbread afternoon teas for a little while longer.
‘New Year New You’, we’re not interested in that rhetoric, nope, but we are interested in the new Patty & Bun, who are closing their London Fields site (they just got too big for the venue) and are moving just around the corner to Richmond Road to bring even more burger, beats and booze. Yasss. They’re keeping some of the same elements at the London Fields arch – the long, communal tables which will cater for up to 50, but they’ll be adding in a little bar to serve up happy hour cocktails and craft beer on tap and there’ll […]
The Modern Pantry have poached award-winning mixologist Ryan Chetiyawardana (Mr Lyan Group) for their latest venture, The Alpha Beta Bar, named so because of the building it’s housed in – The Alphabeta building, Finsbury Square. The restaurant’s menu makes use of global ingredients to produce bold and punchy flavours and, much in the same way, the new drinks menu makes use of exotic ingredients and lesser-known spirits, to produce exceptional drinks that perfectly pair with all the bar snacks on offer. Imbibe a Firecracker Fizz – whisky with lemon, apricot and chilli sherbet, and soda; or a Sgroppino G&T – cream […]
Coffee may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Ralph Lauren. Well, little did you know (or maybe you did), Ralph Lauren’s hospitality portfolio is fairly expansive, with restaurants in Chicago, New York, Paris and now…London. Today sees the opening of Ralph’s Coffee & Bar, a place where the discerning sartorialist can drink coffee and have a cocktail or two before heading into the European flagship store which sits just next door on Regent Street. It takes direct inspiration from it’s New York sibling, The Polo Bar in Manhattan, which is located on the second floor […]
With two iconic London restaurants and hotels across the world, Nobu is finally opening their first European hotel and it’s coming to Willow Street in Shoreditch. It’s been a while in the making having meant to open in 2014 and 2016 but hopefully it’s third time lucky as it’s set to open this spring. Detailed plans are yet to be announced, but what we can tell you is that the hotel will feature 150 rooms, 7 suites, state of the art modern features and a 240 cover Nobu restaurant with outdoor courtyard. As with the restaurants on Berkeley Street and Old […]
