10 Ways to Get Battered on a Tuesday

We are of course talking about pancake batter, because tomorrow is Shrove Tuesday. Easter is rather early this year, which means we’ve only had a few days to gorge ourselves silly and drink all the drinks after being virtuous in January before we start being healthy again for Lent by giving up chocolate/alcohol/sugar. So you may as well have one last hurrah and eat all the pancakes – here are 10 of our favourite pancake offerings this year.

Kensington’s New Bar

Ah, Wednesday; hump day, the day in the week where we start to free wheel towards the weekend. And what better way to celebrate this day than with the opening of a new bar?  Exactly. So it’s good news then that you have just two days to wait until The Kensington Hotel opens the K Bar. Found between Old Brompton Road and Queen’s Gate, the bar will be taking inspiration from a gentlemen’s club. The bar features deep oak bookcases and panelling, polished brass detailing, dark green hues, blue velvet seating and sparkling chandeliers. It’s the sort of place that […]

8 Ways to Spend Valentine’s Day If You’re Single

Here at The Handbook HQ we’re all about balance, we’ll have our green juice in the morning and our burgers in the evening. We’ll attend Body Pump three times in a week and then not move from our sofa all weekend. And so, since we’ve told you about what to do if you’re loved up this Valentine’s Day, we’re now going to tell you about what to do if you’re single. And it’s not re-enacting the opening scenes of Bridget Jones, it’s not giving all couples death stares or eating yourself into a food coma with too much ice-cream. It’s […]

Seven Park Place Review – What We Thought

William Drabble can cook, there is no denying that, I mean really cook, but as an interior designer, perhaps not so much. We’re talking about our recent trip to Seven Park Place when we were staying at St James’s Hotel and Club. A year after its launch in 2009, the restaurant was awarded a Michelin star and 4 AA Rosettes, last October it was awarded a Michelin star for the sixth time, so we were expecting big things. The restaurant itself seats just 26 covers across 9 tables. It’s rather like a boudoir, all rich, jewel colours, embossed walls, different […]

The InterContinental’s New Hotel

Pre-Millennium, Greenwich was barely given a second thought by Londoners. Enter the Millennium Dome (now the O2 Arena) and on any given weeknight you’ll find thousands of euphoric fans still singing as they pile onto the Jubilee line, long after the concert has ended. Wanting to avoid the crowded tube? The InterContinental O2 has just opened its doors, and it is just metres from the Arena. As suited to leisure as it is to corporate guests, the vast hotel boasts 453 rooms, 59 swanky suites, 20 meeting rooms, a 3,100sq ft ballroom and 5 in-house bars and restaurants, all spread over […]

The Periodic Table Of Cocktails

Making cocktails is a science. It involves a lot of experimentation, combination of elements and knowledge of your art. I can confirm that I was abysmal at all forms of science at school and now that I’m older I even struggle to make a decent glass of orange squash. However, if like us here at Handbook HQ you’re a scientific catastrophe, there is hope yet. Bourne & Hollingsworth’s latest ‘Last Libations’ event, The Periodic Table of Cocktails is a sure-fire way to ensure even the most amateur mixologists leave with the ability to throw together a magnificent mojito or stir […]
