Bars and brunches, two of our favourite things. An evening at the former inevitably leads to the requirement of the latter and now both can be found at Smith & Wollensky as they have just launched their new bar and are set to launch their new brunch this weekend. Found on the lower ground floor of the restaurant, the Adelphi bar will be open from 5pm throughout the week and on Saturday, which means if you only have time for a cocktail or a pre-theatre bite then you can still pew up a stool at the bar. There’s a 40 […]
In French, the word Cabotte means a small dwelling, found in a vineyard – a refuge for workers, somewhere they could store their tools and eat. In London, however, it is a new French restaurant which has just opened in the City on Gresham Street by award-winning Master Sommeliers, Xavier Rousset and Gearoid Devaney. Created by Head Chef Ed Boarland, the menu will include a combination of classic and modern French dishes such as Oeuf Meurette; a ham and parsley terrine with apple and raisin chutney; beef cheek bourguignon served en cocotte with savoy cabbage and it’s rumoured that Ed’s […]
When it comes to the things that sandwich dreams are made of then fried buttermilk chicken in soft butter-toasted buns is where it’s at. Just read that again, buttery toast and fried chicken. Heaven. Good thing then that the award-winning sandwiches from Butchies are to have their first permanent home in Camden Market following their stall at Broadway Market. Created by Garrett FitzGerald and his wife, Emer their aim is to bring chicken sandwiches to the same level as the beloved burger. Named after some of Garrett’s favourite fictional pop culture characters, they will be serving up four free-range chicken […]
In London there’s no such thing as a dedicated ‘wine day’ – with a glass on Monday evening to celebrate getting through the day, a wine-fuelled Tuesday night ‘meeting’ with a colleague and once you get to Wednesday there is no need for justification. Sofitel London St James is launching Sofitel Wine Days, a curated collection of wine cocktails which is running from 21st September to 31st October. Available in the intimate St James Bar and the sophisticated The Balcon restaurant, the cocktails will feature French wines in celebration of the French wine harvest and will include the likes of […]
Confident enough to nestle in to Brixton’s Coldharbour Lane, new late-night chicken shop Fancy Funkin Chicken is clearly up to the challenge of making their own surrounded by new neighbours CHICKENLiquor, The Rum Kitchen and Nanban to name but a few. Before we reveal anything you can no doubt work out a few key things; there’s probably a street food vibe seeing as 1) the name is quite (very) informal, 2) Brixton is king of the London street food scene and 3) a chicken shop doesn’t tend to be swanky. The 50-cover restaurant will have an ‘urban’ feel to it, […]
If summer is all about alfresco drinking and picnics, then autumn marks the return of afternoons spent having tea and we’ll be adding the Wyld Tea at Dandelyan (the award-winning bar at Mondrian London) to our repertoire this year. Launching on the 29th September, the tea, which is the first tea to be served at the hotel, will be inspired by botanical influences (seen in Tom Dixon’s design of the bar) and the 70s (a nod to the original Platner designed Sea Containers building). Whether it’s going to feature glacé cherries and vol au vents we can’t confirm, but we’re […]
New? It opened back in July of this year, after chef Chris Smith met Alastair Burgess of Happiness Forgets and realised their shared love of French food. Where? Sitting above the award-winning bar, Happiness Forgets (which you need to add to your London bucket list if you haven’t already visited) you’ll find Petit Pois Bistro in Hoxton Square. 9 Hoxton Square, Hackney, N1 6NU, www.petitpoisbistro.com On the Menu: There is no messing around here, it’s good French food served simply. The succinct menu is made up of a handful of starters, a few main courses and just two puddings. At the […]
Beastie Boys is getting a PC 21st century makeover: introducing Beastie Boys & Girls. Nope, the band isn’t preparing for a comeback tour, Beastie Boys & Girls is a feasting dinner, taking place at Bethnal Green’s Paradise Garage, sister restaurant to The Dairy, The Manor and Counter Culture in Clapham. The ‘beastie’ element of the dinner comes in the form of the ‘beast’ (animal) being celebrated through nose to tail cooking, or beak to claw seeing as this time around is a celebration of game. Seasonal British cooking is at the core of The Dairy Group so Head Chef Simon […]
Just as we were psyching ourselves up for Autumn, a heatwave kicks in. Not that we’re complaining at all, especially when it means we can eek out summer this weekend with a quaint street party and a screening of 500 Days of Summer. If you’re wanting something new, check out Rum Kitchen Notting Hill which has just undergone a huge makeover (complete with new menus) and, as fashion week sweeps the streets of Soho, check out all the stylish happenings across the city.
Luxury accompanied by bliss and coated with decadence. That’s the only way to describe the La Parisienne Style Services Sofitel London St James has unveiled in honour of its French heritage, coinciding with the La Parisienne photography exhibition – a collection of 32 photographs of some of the world’s most glamorous and iconic women from the 1950s to the present day, displayed in the hotel until November and accessible by guests and non-guests, free of charge. Alongside the exhibition (which will go on to tour Sofitel hotels around the world) the hotel has created a collection of stylish, Parisian inspired experiences in partnership […]
