Following on from the relaunch of May Fair Kitchen, the team at Edwardian Hotels London are back with their next restaurant: Monmouth Kitchen. As the name suggests it’s opening on Monmouth Street. As the name doesn’t suggest it’s going to be a mix of Italian and Peruvian flavours and small plates. The 106-cover restaurant, which features a robata grill and open kitchen, will be serving up a selection of ceviche dishes including lobster ceviche and sea bass ceviche with avocado alongside signature dishes of smoked lamb cutlets with red anticucho and pan-fried salmon with Calabrian chilli salsa. For pudding, expect […]
The fire of summer is dwindling but it’s not out yet so there’s still time to enjoy the sunshine hours and outdoor activities…like eating. Inspiring us to get our BBQ on in style is Le Pont de la Tour who is hosting a one off BBQ cruise in partnership with Thames Luxury Charters ‘Erasmus’. Feast on classic cheeseburgers, prawn kebabs, grilled corn on the cob and BBQ spiced pork sausages to name a few. Don’t forget dessert with offerings of lemon tart and bitter chocolate mousse. The clinch here is the unlimited drinks that come with your ticket meaning […]
Meat. Beer. Drink. Fire. Yeah, meat and beer, that’s right Meatopia is back for the fourth year in London and there is some rather exciting news. The weekend long affair is now starting on Friday night (2nd September) with a ‘Late Shift’ and there are still tickets. Kicking off the weekend, the Friday night offering will begin with DJ sets from Professor Green, Andy Smith (Portishead), MC Zani and Bass 6, DJ Tofu and Temple Funk Collective. Across the weekend you’ll also be able to see sets from Norman Jay MBE and Jazzy B (Soul II Soul). Of course though […]
New? The most recent venue in the Rosa’s Thai Cafe family, the Victoria site opened earlier this year – 8 years after husband and wife Saiphin and Alex ran a Thai street food stall on Brick Lane. Where? 25 Gillingham Street, Victoria, SW1V 1HN First Impressions: Our welcome was friendly and we were led through to a seat by the window which I would request to sit at again. Absolutely packed on the Thursday evening we went, you’d be disappointed had you not booked although if you were willing to wait ten minutes or so I’m sure they’d find space […]
One of the big headaches about dining out is the bill. That innocent slip of paper so discreetly placed on the table, maybe with a chocolate to soften the blow. No matter how inevitable it is or how many times you’ve mentally tallied up your spend, it’s all too easy for those extra glasses of wine to add up – not to mention the creme brûlée you promised yourself (and your waistline) you’d avoid. X number of glasses of wine later and it’s not only you who is seeing double, yes the wine was good but your eyes don’t deceive […]
New? The brunch launched last month and is running every Saturday until 1st October. Where? Tucked away in The Yard in Vauxhall, you’ll find Nola Rola at 4 Durham Street, Vauxhall, SE11 5JA, www.nolarolalondon.com On the menu: Ribs, ribs and more ribs, washed down with a constant supply of Prosecco and Whiskey punch. First Impressions: This was going to be no civilised brunch, but why would we want that on a sunny Saturday afternoon? Groups of raucous friends were already dancing to the DJ, the Prosecco was flowing and there was a buzz about the place. The Look: Held in […]
The link between food and science isn’t a particularly new trend but it does seem to have picked up pace over the past few months; you’ve got Damien Hirst’s Pharmacy 2, steaming nitrogen ice cream from Chin Chin Labs and Bompass and Parr, whose love of a boiler suit stood strong with their Propercorn Institute of Flavour collaboration at the start of summer. The wonderful world of test tubes and mysterious nameless liquids continues, and you can drink them. Oh and did we mention it’s based on Breaking Bad? Informally titled ‘the crystal ship’, the Hackney immersive bar experience invites […]
With all this talk of Rio we have developed a new found appreciation for all things rum. With Notting Hill Carnival fast approaching (27th-29th August) what better way to get in the laid-back spirit than with a round-up of the best Caribbean spots for a cooling mojito or hot plate of jerk chicken? Some are more Tiki or tropical than ‘Caribbean’ but all will transport you somewhere far more exotic.
Do you ever sit down in a restaurant and wish that you could order everything on the menu? Not necessarily because you’re up for a man vs food style showdown, but more because it all looks so tempting. What we’re about to tell you is a place where not only ordering everything off the menu is recommended, it’s pretty much compulsory. Pizza-Pocalypse is a pizza showdown, rounding up the best dough-kneading talent from all over east London to battle it out for £1,000 and the most coveted thing of all, the golden mozzarella trophy. Pizza is serious business so you […]
Forget any talk of not eating carbs, forget any of this nonsense about no carbs before Marbs, because we will never be able to give up a bowl of fresh, delicious, comforting pasta and nor should we try to. Why are we praising carbs so? Because, Savurè, a pasta shop straight from Turin has just pitched up on the streets of Shoreditch and we’re rather excited. Following on from the success of their Pastificio con Cucina shop in Turin, the Shoreditch counterpart will let guests buy pasta to eat-in, take away or cook up at home. At the heart of […]
