The Dog House: New Basement Bar

Nobody likes being in the dog house, that is unless of course you’re talking about the new basement bar opening beneath Bernardi’s in Marylebone. You are? Excellent. Opening on the 10th June, the bar is the more seductive, playful counterpart to the light airy restaurant upstairs. Decorated in dark greys and rich blues the bar will have banquette seating, small intimate tables and stools at the bar – head down after the restaurant for a night cap or two. A hidden snug makes the perfect setting for a small get together (it can seat up to 8) or when the […]

The Bloomsbury Club Bar: Classic and Forgotten Cocktails

If there was ever a golden age for cocktails then it would be the 1920s and 1930s and well, 2016…with the opening of The Bloomsbury Club Bar. Housed within The Bloomsbury hotel, the bar looks to the hedonistic Bloomsbury Set for inspiration, mixing up forgotten classics and new innovative creations. The Virginia Woolf is tart yet fruity – blending together No.3 gin, fresh lemon juice, raspberry shrub, egg white and Cochi Americano; whilst her husband Leonard Woolf is more simple and classic – Makers Mark bourbon, ginger syrup and orange bitters.  Classic cocktails will include The Blood and Sand (inspired […]

Cocotte Review – What We Thought

New? Cocotte, the “healthy rotisserie” opened in February by a group of friends from Paris. Where? 95 Westbourne Grove, Notting Hill, W2 4UW www.mycocotte.uk On the Menu: Chicken. Free-range from a farm in La Chapelle d’Andaine in France, the chicken is marinated for 24-hours in a secret recipe of herbs and spices and available simply by quarter, half or whole, but sharing is the way to go. A concise selection of sides (roasted baby potatoes, mash or mac and cheese) is trumped by the imaginative list of salads, available as mains or sides. First Impressions: Cocotte makes a welcome destination after the seemingly […]

Jungle Book Terrace Lands in East London

Everyone knows the story of the Jungle Book whether you’ve seen the new adaptation or not, although if you haven’t seen it what are you doing? Go and see it now. And in honour of the new release and because it’s summer and we can’t all afford to fly off to the jungle, Old Bengal Warehouse are launching a Jungle Book inspired terrace. Part of the #BlossomCity campaign by D & D, the terrace will be bringing a touch of Madhya Pradesh (where Rudyard Kipling’s book is set) to EC2 with vibrant, themed cocktails. Mowgli is reimagined as a gin […]

Camino Bankside Gin Garden

Another day, another gin terrace opening. Yes, summer is truly upon us as bars all across the city put away the outdoor heaters, fold up their blankets and order in their countless crates of the capital’s favourite spirit. Camino Bankside are no exception to this rule, and come June 9th they’ll be transforming their terrace into a Spanish-inspired gin-haven, with terracotta tones, patterned tiles and the all-important gin bar transporting guests out of London and into the sun of the Med. Worried a simple gin and tonic may get a little boring after a while? Fear not! The Gin Garden […]

Restaurant Critics Cook for Top Chefs

Being a food critic has many perks, and eating brilliant food at some of the world top restaurants is definitely worth the hard work and writing that comes afterwards. A pretty plush job! The same can’t be said for the poor chefs who spend their days rushing around boiling hot kitchens, meticulously planning everything and barely getting a minute to sit back and relax. Humanitarian organisation Action Against Hunger, however, have decided that it’s about time the tables turned and the critics spent a little time in the hot seat, so to speak.   The idea is easy enough. Get […]
