New? Brand new – Roba opened 11th April 2016 so we went to see how they’re getting on. Where? 34 Norfolk Place, London W2 1QW www.robarestaurant.co.uk On the menu: Roba is all about doing grilled food right. The simple menu is comprised of snacks (which double up as starters) including mini burgers, beetroot hummus and hot wings, larger dishes such as duck legs with quail eggs or smoked salmon and spinach mousse, and, of course, the grill, made up of a series of meats including sirloin and rib eye steaks, grilled fish and BBQ spare ribs. For those not in […]
New? Now a couple of years old, St Clements is a staple feature in the weekends of Parsons Green residents. Where? 201 New Kings Road, Parsons Green, SW6 4SR www.stclementscafe.co.uk First Impressions: As chic yet unfussy as you’d expect for any brunch cafe in South West London, the main feature of St Clements is the counter, piled high with seriously tempting-looking cakes and pastries. Populated almost exclusively by girls in their activewear, with a few couples in their mid-twenties and a couple of buggies outside, St Clements is clearly a failsafe meeting spot for locals at any time of day. The […]
We really love Mexican food. And we really love tacos. The best thing about them is building them yourself. The challenge that we set ourselves to see just how much we can cram into the soft floury tortilla never fails to amuse. Grated cheese? Er, yes. Guacamole? More is more. Latin-Caribbean bar Barrio share our taco appreciation, so much so that they are having a Taco Takeover, with a different guest chef each month doing tacos their way. Beginning with The Roadery (British Street Food Award finalists), these guys are putting a British spin on the taco with their Braco […]
New? The InterContinental London O2 opened its (revolving) doors in November last year, so five months on we went along to see how things are going. Where? 1 Waterview Drive, Greenwich Peninsula, SE10 0TW www.iclondon-theo2.com First Impressions: Leaving the crowds walking towards the stadium, it’s a further five minutes or so until you get to the hotel. Given our rainy walk, you’d feel right at home pulling up in a blacked out UberLuxe. Vast was the word that kept springing to mind – the revolving doors: vast, the lobby and high ceilings: vast, the number of doors and corridors: vast. […]
You may or may not have heard that recently the Queen celebrated her 90th birthday. A pretty impressive feat regardless, but given her manic schedule and high-pressure job it’s all the more impressive she’s still up and about as much as she is after over 60 years on the job. Since the Queen is in the public eye a lot people seem to think they know about many aspects of her life, but do you know the first restaurant she ate at following her coronation? In case the title of this article hasn’t given it away, the answer is Quaglino’s. To […]
They say that beauty is skin deep but popular cosmetic brand Benefit is trying to penetrate those flawless walls with the return of their charity campaign, Bold Is Beautiful. Run by Benefit Cosmetics, the campaign raises funds and awareness for Look Good Feel Better, who help women and teenagers combat the visible side effects of cancer treatment, and Refuge which supports women and children escaping domestic violence. You can choose to be involved in the campaign as little or as much as you want; from donating straight to either charity via text to participating in the London march. Why not […]
Now we don’t want to get anyone’s hopes but we’ve heard that this January like weather is soon to end and we’ll be back to normal spring temperatures – maybe don’t reach for your flip flops just yet, but it might be time to put away the winter coats. If of course this doesn’t happen, you can always get your summer fix by heading to May Fair Kitchen which is reopening next week after a short closure and is set to become a little slice of the Mediterranean. Overseeing the refurbishment is Amir Jati (former head of private dining at Nobu) […]
It’s been four long weeks since our last 4-day week but it’s finally that time again. Spend your Sunday with as many Bloody Marys as you can handle, without fear that you will start your working week feeling sorry for yourself. Despite what the weather forecasters want to have us believe, we are an optimistic bunch, so this weekend sees the launch of rooftop bars, brunches and street food markets, all opening for the summer season. Boozy bowling, happy hours and Top Gun screenings, it’s all happening this weekend.
Wandsworth Town is home to The Handbook HQ, England rugby players, yummy mummies, brilliant coffee and now the arrival of two new restaurants: Meatup, a bbq restaurant opening in June, and Chit Chaat Chai – an Indian street food restaurant which arrives today. The story starts with founders, Tania and Dhruv, not being able to find a good Bhel Poori. They wanted Indian food full of flavour and texture, the sort only found on a stall on the street – chaat. So, taking things into their own hands, they trawled the shops for the best ingredients, trialling out dishes on their […]
We can’t wait for summer; basking in the sunshine in London parks, sipping Pimm’s, finding the season’s soundtrack that will forever serve as as reminder of that year’s summer events. But summer doesn’t need to be all about week long festivals which leave you questioning your sanity and warm beer in the park (although we’ll most likely be doing both). Sometimes you just want serenity and escapism from the steamy clutches of the London summer season, and luckily for you, Proms on the Roof will be taking place on 11th May at the Kensington Roof Gardens, offering an evening of culture, music […]
