Hakkasan Celebrates Chinese New Year

2016 is the Year of the Monkey and with Chinese New Year landing on 8th February, Cantonese restaurant Hakkasan is celebrating in our favourite way, with food and gifts. Available in both their Mayfair and Hanway Place restaurants, Executive Head Chef Tong Chee Hwee has created a limited edition menu alongside a dessert and cocktail.  Designed to showcase dishes which will bring joy and prosperity, you’ll find double boiled fresh ginseng and chicken soup; diced wagyu beef and pine nut golden cups; wok-fried lobster in spicy truffle sauce and dried scallop with crab meat fried rice. To finish there’ll be […]

Believe it or not, Summer is upon us. The weather may be somewhat deceptive, but this is the time to show off that ‘Summer bod’ you’ve been working so hard to achieve all year. We’ve cooked up a list of London’s healthiest brunches to give you a little health-spiration this summer:

The Victorian Bath House Opens

In 1895, architect G Harold Elphick designed an opulent bath house in Bishopsgates and housed a Turkish bath, for the discerning gentleman about town. After it closed in 1954 it went on to be a Turkish restaurant, pizzeria, bar and even a night club. Having survived the trials and tribulations of the last 121 years, the now Grade II listed building, stands proudly as a gem of Middle Eastern design amongst the modern, towering glass blocks. It now belongs to the event connoisseurs, Camm & Hooper and they’ve joined forces with Russell Sage Studios to refurbish and reopen the Victorian Bath […]

Kanada-Ya Review – What We Thought

I’m no ramen expert but I do love Asian food so a trip to the new(ish) Kanada-Ya ramen bar in Piccadilly was an exciting one. The second site to open, after the success of nearby Giles Street, Kanada-Ya have only upped the hype surrounding their much-loved signature dish. The evening we went was particularly wet and cold but even this wasn’t enough to put off a queue waiting on the street for a table. This is an in’n’out kind of place so the turnover rate for tables is fairly quick, making it an ideal pre-theatre destination. I had moyashi ramen, moyashi […]

Bo Drake Review – What We Thought

When it comes to fusion cooking, Scottish-Chinese chef Jan Lee at Bo Drake is certainly standing out from the crowd and making a big impression with his Korexican cuisine. His unique idea of fusing together East Asian cuisine with smoky BBQ cooking methods from Europe and America has got people talking, and more importantly eating. Think tapas, but with an Asian twist, then a Mexican twist, then back to an Asian. And it kind of seems to go around in that flavour cycle… Situated on Greek Street, every table has a flickering candle, with a choice of intimate dining at […]

Brown’s Hotel’s ‘Not So Dry January’

We at The Handbook like people that do their own thing, write their own story, lead their own path, so while everyone around you may be clutching to bottles of juice as they try to cleanse their weakened liver, we say to hell with that! And so does Brown’s Hotel as they have created a trio of absolutely not alcohol-free ‘Dry Cocktails’ available throughout January. The drinks comprise of Dry Cooler blends Aperol, soda water and Galanti Prosecco Extra with a dry citrus roundel garnish, Dry Dry Baby, Petit Chablis, soda and lemon and grapefruit bitters served over ice. Last on […]
