Red Dog Saloon Review – What We Thought

Red Dog Saloon the American BBQ restaurant has recently moved into Berwick Street, their third London site and having heard various reports of great burgers and good milkshakes we decided to see for ourselves.   Stepping inside you’ll find dark wooden panelled walls covered in black and white photos of American outlaws and cowboys and skulls of cattle. It’s relaxed and informal and for the size of the restaurant they were able to fit a lot of tables in – good for getting lots of covers in and not having to queue, bad for the size of the tables which […]

What to Look Out for in 2016

2015 has been a busy one and 2016 looks set to be equally as exciting, food-wise. At some points there seemed to be dozens of new openings each week but as always we kept you in the loop with news of all the hottest launches before the first customers even picked up their knife and fork. 2016 will see the rebirth of the humble kebab. Le Bab promises to change any preconceptions about greasy kebab houses when it opens a permanent residency in Carnaby Street’s ever-foodie Kingly Court. Imagine free range chicken Shawarma, roe deer shish and BBQ paneer kebabs […]

The Piano Works NYE Party

We’ve already done guides to the best places to head for New Year’s Eve feasts and parties but if you’re still stuck for ideas then here’s another to consider… The Piano Works in Farringdon is the place for civilised live music and a late night – normally the two don’t mix so well but here they do, and not only that but an ensemble of two grand pianos, drums, guitar, horn and backing singers perform nothing but songs requested by the audience, all night long. A refreshing change from DJs who glare as you request Justin Bieber for the forth […]

A Look Back at the Foodie Highlights of 2015

Whilst we’re always told to keep looking forward – must.keep.moving. – it’s as customary at this time of year to make resolutions for the year ahead as it is to reflect on the previous 12 months. At points this year (September in particular) we could barely keep up with the volume of quality restaurant openings in the city. But we managed, and as things begin to slow down now, we’ve had a chance to reflect on the biggest foodie trends of 2015. Many restaurants are now on so many people’s lips that they feel as though they’ve been around for […]

Urban Meadow Review – What We Thought

I thought Urban Meadow, the cafe and bar in Bayswater, looked like the perfect Saturday pit stop, so when I was invited down to try it out what better time than lunchtime on a day of *intense* Christmas shopping. When we visited it was looking very festive, even though I had expected, (name to blame), for it to be more of a summery venue. It had actually been transformed into a ‘winter meadow’ with fairy lights and white twigs aplenty. The ceiling is adorned with big copper leaves and a big terrace along the front of the restaurant was made […]

Delicious London Launches Delicious Weddings

If Love Actually has taught us anything, besides the fact that there were in fact lobsters present at Jesus’ birth and that Hugh Grant would have made a dashing prime minister, it is that Christmas is a time for getting engaged, getting married and of course love. We predict that there’ll be one or two engagements this Christmas, so does Delicious London as they have recently launched their bespoke wedding service Delicious Weddings. They’ve been planning weddings since 2011 but now they’ve decided to take the wedding scene by storm with this new venture. Their expertise lie in planning urban […]

Searcys afternoon tea review – what we thought

The Gherkin has been going for a while now and yet somehow I never managed to get myself in gear and make it over; well all that changed recently with the launch of their Christmas afternoon tea in Searcys. Located at the very top of the building, I had some brief vertigo as the dome of glass surrounds you giving you full viewing access. The inside was supposed to have been transformed into a winter wonderland, akin to a snow globe, but besides from a couple of Christmas trees and some pretty table ornaments, it looked much like normal restaurant – […]

Festive Brunch at Tom’s Kitchen

If the abundance of festive dinners in London don’t take your fancy and you’re one of those people who saves turkey for The Big Day itself, Tom’s Kitchen have thought of you with their latest offering; a big old festive brunch. Not every dish is strictly festive so don’t anticipate cranberries on your porridge and sprouts on your benedict. Instead, expect an extra special spin on our midday favourites; the humble but ever-appetising benedict has been given two new leases of life. The first is Cornish lobster and crab benedict with chilli and coriander hollandaise and the second, with duck […]

First Aid Box Opens

We all know that drinking whisky is supposed to help a cold and that a G&T is a really good way to cure a headache (if it’s of the hangover variety of course). Ok, it might not be quite what the doctor orders but this certainly is. Opening on Friday is First Aid Box, a new bar in Herne Hill from the duo behind drinks consultancy Salts of the Earth and Brixton bar, Shrub & Shutter – Chris Edwards and Dave Tregenza. Throughout the day they’ll be serving up Alchemy coffee and fresh juice and come the evening they’ll be […]
