Arabica: Review

The Arabica Spice Company has been around for 14 years, their restaurant in Borough Market had only been opened in a week when we went down to visit and despite no reviews having been published at that time, it was already packed on a Monday. So far so good. The restaurant features a mix of simple wooden tables or turquoise leather booths, exposed brick walls, arched ceilings, low lighting and they can open up the front which in this heat is life-saving. As the website says the restaurant is an ‘epicurean exploration’ of The Levant, and the menu which is […]

Urban Caprice

Urban Caprice, the event caterers from the Caprice Holdings (the group behind the likes of London restaurants: Le Caprice, The Ivy and Scott’s) are doing their good deed for the summer by letting the rest of the country (that cuisine wilderness…we jest) have a taste of their restaurants as they take to the road in a vintage airstream.  First up they are heading to the Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup Polo this weekend, where they’ll be serving up burgers, but not just any sort because 1) this is the polo and 2) they’re from J. Sheekey, so forget beef they’ll be […]

Brew Review

From the outside you might mistake Brew for a high end Starbucks, where one quickly dashes in for a coffee and sandwich and then continues your journey, but this would be a shame for Brew is so much more. Brew is a chain of cafés serving breakfast, lunch and dinner with locations in Wimbledon, Battersea and more recently, Wandsworth. The more travelled amongst you may have even seen them in Melbourne, San Francisco and LA – this Brew gets around. With Brew you can banish the thought of lowly cereal for breakfast with their much more appealing options of Blueberry […]

Porky’s BBQ: Review

Following on from the success of their Camden branch, husband and wife team  Simon and Joy Brigg launched a second restaurant over on Bankside recently and so The Handbook team went down to check it out. Inside the restaurant is all exposed brick walls, high sturdy wooden tables and stools, twinkling lights, it’s stripped back but still welcoming and reflects the simple but well-honed menu. We chose however, to sit outside but unfortunately Porky’s is situated on a street which doesn’t seem to catch the sun, so whilst we could see people walking in the light by the river our […]

A Shoreditch Pop-Up

Listen up, we’ve just heard about a pop-up coming to Shoreditch this December that, if you’re super-organised and are already planning your festive work party (well done you), you have to check out. That’s right, this year an Enchanted Nordic Yulefest is popping-up in the heart of Shoreditch. It’s a Christmas experience like no other and is going to make last year’s office party last year look, well, a little deflated. And why? Because it’s going to be a birch tree lined fairyland with sheepskin laden nooks (the place for the obligatory office party romance?) and forget the usual standard […]
