M Restaurant review – what we thought

Like Madonna we are always on board with a reinvention and another iconic M, M Restaurant agrees as they have just launched their new summer RAW menu with lighter treats to keep you going in the hot months. Taking inspiration from 6 countries including Japan and Australia, the emphasis here is on meat and fish even on the RAW side of the restaurant. M Restaurant is a fantastic venue space, balancing a relaxed atmosphere with an up market vibe well. Split into the Grill dining area on the left and Raw on the right, the upstairs hosts the cocktail bar, […]

5 Places To Visit In Stoke Newington

London is expanding. Hip restaurants and bars are spreading their wings and opening in ‘neighbourhood’ settings as well as central locations like Soho and Mayfair, moving from zone 1 in the City first to Shoreditch then to Dalston, and now to Stoke Newington – The Handbook’s current weekend haunt, conveniently located between chic Islington and trendy Hackney. Here’s our guide on where to go in N16 (note: they’re all located on uber cool Church Street, so easily accessible).

Christabel’s Supper Club: Eat Your Art

As we say goodbye to al fresco drinking, it’s all about the indoor supper clubs and caterer and event planner, Christabel, who is known for her playful and quirky dinner parties has a new concept for September. This month it’s all about getting creative, it’s all about eating your art, if you were that child that was always trying to eat the plasticine or  licking the paint brush at school – there was always one, then this is for you. You’ll be eating off a palette, painting your food canvas with vibrant colours, turning your food into pieces of art […]

Jago Review – What We Thought

The other day finding ourselves on the hunt for supper in the Commercial Street area we decided not to be lured into the curry houses with promises of more than we could eat and drink for a mere fiver (not a good look on a Tuesday) and instead we wandered up Hanbury Street to Jago. Jago is the work of Louis Solley (former head chef at Ottolenghi), Hugo Thurston and Vinny Burke and is said to be bringing a taste of the Ashkenazi Jewish cuisine back to London with Middle Eastern and Mediterranean influences. Of course East London still has […]

8 of the Most Hidden Speakeasies

A few years ago, going for a drink in London meant stumbling into an old-man boozer or an outdated wine bar. But now the speakeasy, a different breed of bar based around atmospheric drinking dens of Prohibition America, have swept the city by storm, bringing formidable cocktails and an unbeatable array of spirits to the table. Here are eight of London’s best speakeasies:

5 of the Best Jazz Bars

Jazz is one of those subjects like wine, we like it, we feel sophisticated listening to it but we also like to pretend that we are far more knowledgeable about it than we really are – can you your Bebop from your Cubop? Can you?  What we do know though is that London is definitely not short of jazz bars where you can get your musical fix and here are 5 of our favourites.

Li Veli review – what we thought

Covent Garden is a hotspot for fantastic bars, restaurants and nightlife so it wasn’t surprising that I found myself enjoying my time at Italian bistro, Li Veli. Thanks to its great location, a window seat is the best in the house so you can people watch while you eat. I was instantly struck by the cream-coloured interior which gives the venue a warm, spacious feel and when the sun set and candles were adorned around the place, it made it quite romantic. The menu showcases an authentic taste of Southern Italy plus their very own namesake wines which can also […]

Skinny rebel workout – what we thought

Oh you’ve never heard of Skinny Rebel? That’s because it’s brand spanking new and it’s about to change your whole fitness game. Created by the people behind Train Dirty, Skinny Rebel is typically geared towards women over men, and is set apart from normal training by the inclusion of an altitude mask which is worn throughout the PT session. Said mask only goes over your mouth and nose as it works to restrict the amount of oxygen you breath in. The point is to reduce oxygen levels in the air you breath and therefore circulating in your blood so the […]
