Percy & Founders: Fitzrovia’s latest hangout

Back in 1755 Hugh Percy, the Duke of Northumberland and a group of philanthropists founded the Middlesex Hospital on Mortimer Street, fast forward to now and the Fitzrovia site is becoming the home of a new, all day bar and restaurant – aptly named Percy and Founders. You know it’s going to be good because, it’s the first venue from Open House, the sister company to Cubitt House – they’re the team behind the much loved Grazing Goat, Thomas Cubitt, Orange and The Pantechincon Rooms and is a move away from a traditional pub to a more modern venue. 7 Places to go to Cure a Hangover

Oh hangovers, the body’s way of punishing you for having one too many last night, especially given the older we get the worse they seem to get – which frankly is just unfair.  The pounding headaches, the nausea, the worry at what you said the night before and generally hating of the world and life. However we’re here to give you a helping hand, to get you out of bed or off the sofa, with these top seven places to go when you have a hangover and to get you feeling more alive again:

Forget Beer it’s all About Rugby and Wine

So we may have lost the chance of the Grand Slam, but we could still win the Six Nations (just lots of positive thinking and points should do it) and hey we won the Calcutta Cup so there is at least that. All will be decided this weekend when we take on France.  And with their (and our) love of wine what better way to start the afternoon off than with wine tasting? Leave the hordes around the stadium to their pints and join Quintessentially Wine for something a little more refined. They’ve hired the house opposite the stadium and […]

Greyhound on the Test Restaurant Review

Head chef at the Greyhound on the Test, Alan Haughie, learned his craft as an apprentice under Anton Edelman at the Savoy from 2002-2004 and went on to continue working with him at the Brasserie St Quentin, by Harrods on Brompton Road. After a brief stint abroad he returned to London before finding his calling in Stockbridge, serving great British food from locally produced sources. We happily settled into the cosy and romantically lit restaurant in the Greyhound on the Test, enjoying the rustic surroundings before getting on with ordering our food. The starter of Gazpacho, a dish purposefully served […]

Maple and Fitz

The sun is starting to shine, people are eating lunch outside and we even saw a man wearing shorts earlier, this might be a bit ambitious but spring is definitely on the way. And we’re starting to ditch our winter diets of carbs on carbs. So lucky for us then that the super-healthy Maple and Fitz has recently launched in Fitzrovia. Launched by the Le Cordon Bleu London- trained Canadian chef Adria Wu (who has also trained in nutrition), Maple and Fitz is apparently Fitzrovia’s first cold-pressed juice bar.  The juices have been created with different benefits in mind – […]
