Ametsa with Arzak Instruction

With the London restaurant scene as packed as it is, all too often it seems restaurants within hotels can get overlooked, which is a shame as some there are some real gems.  One such restaurant is Ametsa with Arzak Instruction at The Halkin, which serves up New Basque cuisine and is headed up by Executive Chef Sergi Sanz, with guidance from Elena Arzak and her father.  If her name sounds familiar then it’s because her family run the 3 Michelin star Arzak restaurant out in San Sebastian, Spain, which you’re bound to have heard of.   Although designed by the London – based […]

Pure Taste

This paleolithic dining experience promises to appeal to your inner caveman. Intrigued? Well, the concept is derived from the work of nutritional therapist Holly Redman who also happens to be the new venue’s head chef. Her menu focuses on food groups generally consumed during the paleolithic era when dairy products, grains, legumes, processed oils and refined sugars didn’t feature in the diet. Instead, paleolithic man (and woman) chomped on protein-rich and high-fibre options. The monthly-changing menus feature fresh, seasonal ingredients including free range fish and meat, plus an extensive collection of biodynamic wines, gluten-free beers (which we didn’t know existed […]

Radicals and Victuallers

It may have a bit of a random name but brand new bar and diner, Radicals and Victuallers in Islington’s Upper Street is a cool new venue you might just want to make your friend. It’s a mix of restaurant-style tables and high stools inside and then an al fresco courtyard complete with a canopy of fairy lights, and, more importantly for the time of year, heaters. Nibble on Hot & Kicking Sriracha Wings or the Meat Sharer with its sliders, wings, double-cooked chips and dips or get properly stuck in with the thirteen-strong selection of burgers including Fried Egg […]

All good things come in two’s: Ben and Jerry’s, Ant and Dec and now cocktails and dessert. Why, no-one has thought of pairing these two things before, we do not know but thanks to Basement Sate in Soho, we will definitely see them together more often. Bought to you by Cathleen McGarry, Basement Sate is the first cocktail and dessert bar in London, providing us Londoners with a place to enjoy exquisite desserts, cocktails and of course late night dancing. In celebration of this new found marriage, every Tuesday, the bar will hold Cocktail and Dessert Pairing classes. Boyfriends, take […]

The Return of The Grill at The Dorchester

If you can think way back to May you may remember that  The Grill at The Dorchester shut its doors to give it a complete refurbishment – that’s the interior, menu and team. Fast forward a few months and there is a new young team with Alain Ducasse’s protégé Christophe Marleix at the helm and a new look created by Bruno Moinard. What’s he created is a timeless, sumptuous restaurant; it’s almost like sitting inside a copper teapot – if you can imagine, a mix of bronze, zinc, mirrors, copper and butterscotch leather chairs and a rather marvellous chandelier. On […]

Beijing Comes to Harrods

Harrods is bringing Beijing to Knightsbridge in the shape of Chai Wu, a new, modern Chinese restaurant opening on the fifth floor of our favourite luxury department store. Whilst it might not be the real thing, the promise of duck wraps alone is enough to settle our curiosity. And with a menu created by Bihu Xie and overseen by Executive Chef Ian Pengelly, the UK’s leading expert in Asian cuisine, we cannot wait to get ordering. As everyone knows the best Chinese’ are those shared by friends and with the menu filled to the brim with dim sum, beef wagyu […]
