Selfridges launches

In a department store first, Selfridges is launching its very own in-store cinema today screening both national releases and a themed programme. The collaboration with boutique cinema brand Everyman Cinemas sees a 60-seater, 3,500 sqft venue installed in the Ultralounge events space on the lower ground floor. Entering beneath an illuminated canopy, guests will be greeted at the concierge desk before making their way inside where they will discover an adjoining bar area furnished with an assortment of bar stools, banquet seating and club chairs purveying fine wines and delicious snacks from the Selfridges’ Food Hall. The screening room itself […]

The Cuban Review

Bang in the middle of Camden market, amongst the rockabilly boutiques and cybergoth shops is The Cuban; a South American bar and restaurant. Downstairs the atmosphere is buzzing with people clinking down tequila shots and strutting their stuff on the make-shift dance floor by the mini stage. A quick elevator ride transports you upstairs to the much quieter official dining area, although food can be eaten throughout the venue if you are looking to talk with your friend/parent/Tinder date then avoid downstairs. The live music is great fun and all around us people were getting drawn in and twirling each […]

Mission

Mission, a new wine bar and kitchen, is opening September 15 in Bethnal Green. Brains behind the outfit are Michael and Charlotte Sager-Wilde, the husband and wife team who opened Sager + Wilde last year in Hackney. Mission is a nod towards their favourite neighbourhood in San Francisco and also the name of the first grape ever planted in California's wine region. Expect to drink wines from the West Coast of America – especially the pioneer producers in the area such as Broc Cellars, Hirsch, Mount Eden, Tatomer and Scholium Project. Head chef James De Jong (The Drapers Arms) has […]

Shaka Zulu Review

Filled with towering statues and tribal prints, Shaka Zulu, has created an immersive dining experience that makes you feels like you have skipped the 12 hour plane journey and landed bang in the middle of the Rainbow Nation. The cocktails are great and even boasts a Rum Blazer which was voted ‘CNN Top Twelve Unusual Cocktails in the World’ thusly awarded as you get a mini pyrotechnic show at your table as they prepare it for you, be warned though, it may look pretty but it kicks harder than a mule. If you can bear to share a cocktail, you […]

South Place Hotel parties in Ibiza

It might be the end of summer for us but in Ibiza it isn’t, unlike us it is still a balmy 29 degrees….29 degrees. And making the most of this is boutique hotel South Place, who is leaving London and going in search of warmer weather to host its first annual pop-up party at Sands Resort on the stunning Playa d’En Bossa on the 28th September.  Like house music? Great, because they have Harri and Domenic of Subculture the longest running weekly house and techno night in the world, who will be keeping the party going. There are also rumours of […]

Eclipse

Things are changing over at Eclipse in South Kensington, those who frequent the haunt on Old Brompton Road in search of one of their infamous watermelon martinis know that the downstairs club has always been an extension of the bar, well not any more. They’ve given it a complete refurbishment to make it into its own unique space and today is the launch. Gone are the light sandy coloured walls, in favour of deep burgundy walls giving the club a much more intimate, dark atmosphere which can only lead to more debauchery whilst also hiding any smudged make up after […]

The Black Dog Review

By all appearances The Black Dog in Vauxhall looks like any other pub, even inside it rocks a kind of shabby chic design with tables crammed just a little too tightly together but this is where the drawbacks end. It is always a sign of a confident kitchen team when the kitchen is open plan, as you can combine a perfect opportunity to snoop on the cleanliness and preparation of your food with a pre-meal show. They should be confident as the food, although simple, is surprisingly good with fresh flavours coming through easily and as they say, if it […]
