Restaurant Review: Stax Diner

As an American I have some pretty high standards when reviewing an American diner like Stax. This new restaurant situated in Kingly Court got its name from the 1960s Memphis based record lable, Stax Records. Located on the first story, it's hard to miss the red and white, front-porch style of this Southern-inspired joint.  We were greeted by a friendly staff and the ‘Beyoncé of Kingly Court,’ who sang and danced as she brought us some refreshing Mint Juleps –  an iconic Southern drink composed of Bourbon, mint and brown sugar. Whisky Lemonade, and Bourbon Sweet Tea are a few of the […]

WTA Pre-Wimbledon Party

Last night The Handbook joined the likes of Mischa Barton, Serena Williams, Sabine Lisicki and Lilah Parsons at The Roof Gardens, Kensington to celebrate the annual WTA Pre-Wimbledon party presented by Dubai Duty Free. With a dress to impress theme, celebrities arrived with the support of Porsche (The Handbook took to public transport but next year, next year….) and Maria Sharapova stole the show arriving in a 918 Spyder.  The invitation promised ‘substantial canapés’ (the best kind of promise) and they certainly stuck to that – with guests eating mini fish and chips, samosas and salmon as well as there being […]

Retro Revival Cocktails at The Arch London

Ever fancied having a cocktail with Marilyn Monroe? Or perhaps sipping Bourbon with Frank Sinatra? Well now you can thanks to The Arch London in Marylebone who has recently launched a range of retro revival cocktails. The cocktails, inspired by classic icons, can be enjoyed in the suitably glamorous settings of the vintage style Martini Library, or Champagne de Salon within the hotel. Our favourite is the Rock Around The Clock Martini inspired by the 1950s hit by Bill Haley, it is an unusual blend of Bloom Gin with Fresh Cucumber and Lemongrass, St Germain, Aloe Vera Water and Elderflower. Fourth London site from Workshop Coffee Co, Fitzrovia Coffeebar, opens at the end of this month off Regent Street. The coffee is roasted on site at Workshop’s flagship Clerkenwell store and prepared in a La Morocco Linea PB espresso machine. In Fitzrovia there is also a separate area in the basement that will be used for home brewing masterclasses. The venue itself is also stocked with packs of freshly-roasted coffee, together […]
