Mews of Mayfair Review

The Handbook went to Mews of Mayfair for a little bit of late night dining. When we arrived at Lancashire Court just off New Bond Street, it had all the bustle of a thieves market; there were people everywhere chatting, smoking and getting ready to move on for their night out – drinks firmly in hand. But as we stepped into the door of Mews of Mayfair, climbed the stairs we instantly felt relaxed – as we left the mayhem below and entered the twinkling, quaint brasserie. With low, warm lights, plenty of candles and a simple décor of thick […]

28-50 Review

28-50 has recently opened its third venue in the heart of Mayfair on Maddox Street which boasts their first ever champagne bar. 28-50’s great reputation precedes it as the venue is buzzing when we arrive, the atmosphere is relaxed and we excitedly settle in to order. The Aubergine with grilled courgettes, marinated peppers and goats curd is a simple but delicious starter; the ingredients were fresh and full of flavour. The Salmon Gravlax served with mustard sauce and sourdough toast was another delicious but safe choice, another venture might see us opting for a more daring starter. For our main […]

Edwin’s

This new addition to Borough, opening today, is a 40 cover neighbourhood style brasserie located above the hustle and bustle of the High Street. The restaurant takes its name from former occupant of the site, pub landlord Edwin Brady who ran a pub-cum-museum-of-curiosities there from 1893 which featured a large collection of stuffed animals and skeletons. Known as The Hole in the Wall, it closed in 1901 following complaints about fliers advertising for corpses! Edwin’s is the first restaurant for the local owners Shane Ranasinghe, Michael Robinson, Isaac Tooby and Neil Watson of independent pub company Parched Pubs (The Roebuck […]

St. Ermin’s Spring Tea with unlimited bellinis: Review

Last Sunday The Handbook took a little trip to St Ermin's Hotel in St James for a spot of afternoon tea. With it being the first warm day in months and with sun actually shining we found though that the Tea Lounge was a little oppressive and heavy; purpley walls with white gilding, gave way to a brown carpet covered in beige hexagons, whilst the chairs were a print of yellow, grey and brown – a pattern overload so to say.  And yet the china that the tea was served on was light and white, decorated with delicate blue and […]
