Party at Tonteria!

Mexican-themed tequila bar Tonteria is the venue of the moment. Set on the popular Sloane Square, its ‘Do Not Disturb’ night has proved incredibly popular. One recent event saw socialites Charlie Van Straubenzee, Freddy Van Zevenbergen and George Askew sipping on champagne in the VIP area at the 30th birthday party of Tonteria’s PR Director, Jessica Patterson. A spectacular dance act was also choreographed for Jessica, which made use of a bouncy castle, ultraviolet lights and neon body paint. Earlier in the evening, Jessica hosted a dinner at The Café Royal Hotel’s new golden Roman-style patisserie. The room has floor-to-ceiling […]

The Bull Hotel Review

The Bull in Wrotham, Kent is a hotel, restaurant and bar that has been around for over six hundred years. It has undergone extensive work to restore its former 14th century glory including exposing the oak beams, the inglenook fireplace and even the war time victory stamps on the ceiling of the restaurant. The hotel may look quaint but guests can still enjoy 21st century perks like free Wi-Fi and TVs in the rooms. The hallways are the last on the list of the hotel to need refurbishing before they meet the standards of the rooms. The room we stayed […]

The Bull Food Review

The Bull is committed to supporting their local suppliers and sources only the freshest, highest quality ingredients in their restaurant. The menu brings together elements of Kentish, British and European cuisine and varies from classic pub food to a la carte dining suitable from couples to families to enjoy. We decided to pop down and check it out for ourselves! The starter of Pesto linguine was created especially as a smaller main to make up for the lack of vegetarian options in the starter menu but unfortunately there was nothing special about it. It seemed to lack the main ingredient of […]

12 Days of Christmas Afternoon Tea at the InterContinental Park Lane

The InterContinental Park Lane has just launched its new Christmas afternoon tea and The Handbook chose a suitably cold and wintery afternoon to go and curl up in the Wellington Lounge and check it out. Firstly  the term ‘sink into a chair’ has never been more relevant than in the Wellington Lounge, the chairs engulf you in a sumptuous mass of cushions and soft material, had we the time, we would have never have left them, they were that inviting. But we weren’t there to review the chairs, (had we though top marks all around, 5 out of 5) the […]

Steam & Rye

Nick House (Mahiki, Whisky Mist and Bodo's Schloss) and Kelly Brook may seem like ‘the odd couple’ but they are the duo behind new one-stop destination venue, Steam and Rye. The 550 capacity space, opening this week, is set within the former bank of New York building in the City, harks back to the glamour and decadence of America’s Gilded Age. Says House: “It was love at first sight when I set eyes upon the old Bank of New York on Leadenhall Street and immediately the concept sprung to life in my head. In a few seconds, an amalgamation of […]

Ballaró

Carmelo Carnivale (formerly head chef at Novikov, Semplice, Harry’s Bar) and co-owner Massimo Pascale have just launched Ballaró on the former site of The Haverstock. Taking its name from the famous food market in Sicilian capital, Palermo, it will serve rustic, seasonal Mediterranean food with an emphasis on Sicilian ingredients and dishes. Interiors, by designer Sally Yeoh, combine hints of old fashioned north London glitz with rustic Mediterranean warmth. Smart yet comfortable leather banquettes and chairs in spring lime complement simple, linen effect tabletops. Large windows run along two walls, giving the room a light and airy feel – as […]
