Dirty Martini Summer Nights

Tucked away in a corner of Hanover Square you will find one of London’s two Dirty Martini bars, and last week we made a trip down to Oxford Circus, to spend an evening trying out their new ‘Summer Nights’ Thurdsays! We made ourselves comfortable on the chic leather seats, surrounded by cocktails, and the attractive murmur of chitter-chatter, soaking up a wonderfully relaxed yet up-beat ‘tonight-is-going-to-be-a-good-night’ atmosphere. The evening consisted of, funnily enough, a vibrant summer themed menu of cocktails, and a BBQ platter the perfect size to share with a friend. It was filled with bite sized burgers and […]

Nailing it in Boutique Spa

The Boutique Spa, in Bayswater, is a salon specialising in nails, massage and beauty. They offer typical treatments such as manicures, pedicures, massages, waxing and general pampering. When The Handbook was offered the chance to try out a treatment, we excitedly agreed. We were welcomed in by friendly staff and told to sit and relax while the beautician organised her booth in a simply decorated and very nice smelling room. We opted for the ‘Classic manicure’ which included a buffing and shaping of our nails, followed by a relaxing hand massage and then of course, painting our nails. The beauty […]

Jamaica Jamaica at The Jam Tree

Last week The Handbook went over to the Jam Tree in Clapham Old Town, to get into the Carribean spirit, at their Jamaica Jamaica pop up. The pub was getting into the mood with Jamaican flags and waiters dressed in bright yellow t-shirts, but where was the reggae sound track? Perhaps Bob Marley was having a night off.  After being seated, we ordered a couple of cocktails, the Usain Bolt, a mix of rum, Jamaican Sorrel and champagne and the wonderfully named Shabba Ranks: rum, Koko Kanu, ginger and marmalade. We weren’t in any rush, wanting to spend a lazy […]

London’s British Restaurants

At the moment we are celebrating all things British, from the glorious British sunshine and the copious drinking of Pimms, to the recent addition to the Royal Family and of course Great British food. Strawberries and cream, Sunday lunch, fish and chips and even eels, here are some of our favourite restaurants serving up great British cuisine in London: Boisdale of Belgravia Having conquered his own little part of London with fine Scottish culinary produce, Ranald Macdonald younger of Clanranald founded Boisdales.  Throughout the restaurant nods are given to its Scottish heritage, even before the menu, with a decor of […]
