Aloft ExCel

Starwood’s eagerly anticipated W hotel coming soon to Leicester Square will be followed next year by a new Aloft hotel, one of the company’s sister brands. Opening in London’s ExCel centre, it will be a welcome additon to the area’s current scene of faceless chains. The signature feature of the 252-bedroom hotel will be the group’s trademark loft-style bedrooms designed by the Rockwell Group. Guests can also expect walk-in showers, an open lobby with destination bar and pitstop café called re:fuel. Key to the brand’s offering is contemporary industrial style design at price-point more affordable than the W group – […]

Food Takes Centre Stage

This month sees two food focused relaunches. Notting Hill’s The Lonsdale is being reborn as The Lonsdale Bar and Restaurant – a brand new W8 steakhouse presided over by head chef, Jason Wallis and then, although it launched only last year, roaring 20s speakeasy, Proud Cabaret has just emerged from an extensive overhaul as a fully fledged City restaurant. Hailing from Hawksmoor and The Palm, Jason Wallis has a great track record as a perfectionist, forging relationships with master butchers to ensure any meat he touches is of the highest standard and has, unsurprisingly, chosen free range beef cuts from […]

Cluedo at Prism

There’s way more to savoury cocktails than a hair-of-the-dog Bloody Mary! Hammersmith’s award-winning Sipsmith Distillery has created a limited edition mustard vodka – exclusively for the City’s Prism Brasserie. There’s a tongue-in-cheek Cluedo-theme afoot and the list includes Colonel Mustard – Colman’s mustard Sipsmith vodka, honey syrup, pear puree, lemon juice and egg white and Bloody Scarlet – Prism’s take on a Bloody Mary with an added kick of mustard vodka. The bloody bit may not feature homegrown tomatoes from Prism’s roof garden – we’ve heard that executive chef, Dan Sherlock, may be saving them for new dishes on his […]

Finally there’s more to Belgium than its chocolate! We are delighted to report the opening of Café Luc, a father and daughter collaboration between Julie van Oostende and esteemed Belgian restaurateur and founder of international success story, Le Pain Quotidien, Luc van Oostende – hence the name. Cosmopolitan to a tee, it’s inspired by the grand cafés of Europe and this modern brasserie is set in a beautifully renovated Victorian property in the heart of Marylebone. Julie van Oostende has restaurants in her blood and a career pedigree which spans The Bryant Park Hotel in New York and the Hoxton […]

Cinnamon Club

Determined to maintain standards, amid the lager swilling morass of the forthcoming World Cup, we paid a visit to Vivek Singh’s distinguished Cinnamon Club. Everyone knows that the curries we enjoy in this country are an anglocized version of traditional Indian fare but Singh has made a virtue out of this fact and dishes combine Indian ingredients with those local to the UK and Indian cooking techniques with the culinary devices of Europe. And as we settled down in the lavish surroundings of the former Westminster Library, our sommelier guided us effortlessly through the wine list, recommeding a great Pinot […]

London College of Fashion BA Collection

London College of Fashion held its BA show in hip West London venue, The Dairy, which unlike Somerset House had the decency to throw some gravel over the cobbles in deference to the heels of clamouring fashionistas – not least those sported by Diana Vickers and Edith Bowman. The show was streamed live on the LCF website – a worldwide first for a fashion college. And while we were seated directly behind Harold Tillman desperately trying to read the top insights he was typing on his blackberry we were soon distracted by Karishma Shahani’s standout global traveller chic and the […]

In addition to supporting our prize assets, Triumph also supports emerging lingerie design talent of the future with its Triumph inspiration Award, now in its third successive year. The global lingerie design competition is holding its UK finals on 10 June where the top 20 designers will get a chance to parade their handiwork before the UK winner is announced by the all star judging panel of Nicky Hambleton-Jones, Louise Redknapp, Charlie Anderson and Felder and Felder.
