Caponata & Mennula

You can never keep a notoriously optimistic Italian down and as if to prove it, this season sees two new key launches rising from the ashes of recent closures. Remember Camden landmark, Café Delancey? Well meet the new incumbent, Caponta. The Sicilian Ristorante, Osteria and Bar is run by a family team of brothers and sisters-in-law. But not content with simply feeding their patrons, they have also launched The Forge, a brand new, purpose-built music and arts space next door. The first floor restaurant has a sleek and modern Scandinavian look, flooded with natural light via a glassed-over faux courtyard. […]

Seasonal Pop-Ups

Christmas wouldn’t be the same without all those holiday staples – mince pies, pantos, snogging under the mistletoe and of course a proliferation of good old fashioned pop-ups. Sketch at the Royal Academy continues the gallery’s proud tradition that saw Bistrotheqe’s Flash restaurant taking up residence last year. Pierre Gagnaire and Mourad Mazouz, will launch their pop-up café on December 3rd for two months to coincide with the GSK Contemporary, Earth exhibition. Complementing the exhibition’s theme – an artistic response to the climate change debate – the café aims to reduce unnecessary food miles and will adopt a sustainable philosophy […]

Winter Wonderland in Belgravia

This Christmas sees a fusion of some of the most prestigious retail neighbourhoods; Pimlico Road, Elizabeth Street and Motcomb Street who have united to create a winter wonderland – nestled right in the centre of London.  On Sunday 6th December, shoppers will be treated to a luxurious Christmas experience with a variety of festive activities. All three of the main streets will be closed to traffic with stalls adorned in fairy lights replacing the usual hustle and bustle of the traffic.  So, if the Christmas list is growing, Belgravia’s fantastic shops and craft stalls will be on hand to offer […]

Bibulous

We’ve now got the hang of shopping evenings that ply us with free champagne in the hope that we’ll leave clutching that £800 handbag we’ve been coveting for weeks.  Bibulous, however, doesn’t pull any punches.  A tasting and buying event for fine spirits, it’s certainly not combined with anything but alcohol – save the odd mixer and an olive or two of course.   Bibulous is a tasting party and shopping event with a difference at a ticket price that costs less than a night in a bar.  Browse the tasting tables and cocktail stations where top mixologists including Andy Pearson […]

Kitchen W8

There’s a new Kitchen in town folks, and we can guarantee that it’s a far cry from your own humble abode – even if you do have a Smeg fridge!  Kitchen W8 is a newly launched eaterie in leafy Kensington from business partners Rebecca Mascarenhas and Philip Howard of The Square fame.  The gorgeous neighbourhood restaurant promising a souped up home from home focuses on elegant understated comfort with a stone floor entrance, dark stained oak boards throughout and rich olive leather upholstery.   Presided over by head chef Mark Kempson, formerly of The Square, The Vineyard at Stockcross and Pennyhill Park, a modern […]

Henry Holland for Pretty Polly

Henry Holland has confessed to falling in love with hosiery and we think we’re about to too.  Teaming up with UK stocking producer Pretty Polly, his collection of alphabet tights, houses and mock stockings are light-hearted and fun and come in a range of bright neon colours. While all are semi-sheer and seamless, the alphabet tights are embellished with standout lettering.  Available in purple, pink, blue and green, they manage to give a spark to old wardrobes, yet if that seems too much for the conservative ilk then they are also available in traditional black. Surprisingly warm and very good […]

Tangle Teezer

It’s debatable whether the best candidates have been voted out of X-Factor or not but one thing’s for sure, the tycoons of Dragons’ Den certainly passed up a great business opportunity when they failed to back hairdresser Shaun Pulfrey’s Tangle Teezer. It’s ergonomically designed to fit comfortably into the palm of your hand and individual teeth mean that it glides through the hair breaking down knots on impact rather than gripping and breaking already damaged locks. Since the product launched online last year, it has enjoyed phenomenal success.  Now available in over 1000 salons nationwide including Boots the chemist, the […]

Christmas Cracker

Footsbarn Theatre, which brought us The Shakespeare Party at the Globe last year, are giving us the Globe’s first ever Christmas production.  Normally only open during the summer, the Globe has decided to open its roof for Christmas this year and judging by the popularity of The Shakespeare Party, it looks like this could be a sell out show.  The performance, which will feature a madcap group of rich and bawdy pagans, is inspired by the complete works of Shakespeare.  Christmas Cracker will be suitable for all ages and will be not only full of  jokes but magic, singing, dancing, puppetry, […]

Champagne Chic

Fashion and champagne have always gone hand in hand so Harvey Nichols' new Fifth Floor Belle Époque Champagne Bar and Mews of Mayfair's collaboration with Piper-Heidsieck and Christian Louboutin are a match made in fashionista heaven. The original Fifth Floor bar was a chic if somewhat masculine affair but thanks to an exclusive collaboration with Perrier-Jouët and interior designer Shaun Clarkson, the new version is definitely one for the ladies. Inspired by the grand turn of the century salons and Emile Gallé’s iconic 1902 anemone bottle design for the Cuvée Belle Époque the new bar is all contemporary Art Nouveau. […]

Smell

Admittedly it has been a little while since House of Holland grabbed our attention – and I mean really grabbed us, in the way that those ubiquitous neon tees did, with their slightly filthy sleb slogans. But recently, the name of Holland seems to have popped up in a couple of places other than the runway, with voyages into both fragrance and hosiery. Holland is part of Six Scents: Series Two, which is a charitable initiative that, every year, draws together six designers to create six exclusive fragrances. Holland shares the stage this year with Phillip Lim, Henrik Vibskov, Damir […]
