Topshop EDIT

Topshop’s Oxford Circus flagship will be playing host to an exclusive pop-up boutique showcasing sparkling new international talent from February 15th. The “EDIT” concession has already previewed, and is home to collections such as KTZ-UK by Marian Pejorskis, featuring huge colourful jewels, and White Trumpet by Reno Inchenko, who uses bright geometrics with origami folding and fringing. The boutique will rotate designers, with seven collections on sale for just four weeks, with five more to follow in March. Topshop has long been a supporter of new and exciting designers, with the flagship’s basement already a renowned treasure chest of kooky […]

Noughty eighties

Brace yourselves fashionistas; the unflattering fashions of the eighties are making a comeback. And if flashbacks of stone washed denim and Dr Martens don’t make you recoil in horror, then this summer could be your season.  We’ve already seen (and sampled) the rise of the skinny jean so all you’ll need now to complete the throwback is a batwing jumper, a garish hair band and a set of sturdy shoulder pads. But for those of you too young to remember other statements that made the decade so memorable, here are a few of the trends that will be enjoying a resurgence this […]

Russian roulette

Victoria Beckham, having already graced the cover of British and Indian Vogue, is now striking her seductive, trademark pout for the Russian edition of the much coveted style bible. The singer turned designer attempts to make thumb sucking sexy as she poses with her thumb in her mouth.  But the former Spice Girl is barely recognisable and seems to have been airbrushed within an inch of her 34-year long life. Her complexion doesn’t look real (unless she’s overdosed on Botox jabs) and her eyes, which are almost completely concealed by a sailor hat, look creepily vacant making a mannequin look as though […]

Assassination of Valkyrie

Tom Cruise will slither down the red carpet for the UK premiere of his new film Valkyrie later this evening. The movie tells the true story of how a German officer fails to successfully assassinate his leader Hitler. Count Claus von Stauffenberg devised the 1944 plot where he tried to kill Hitler using a briefcase bomb. The Nazi leader managed to escape with only minor wounds. Beleaguered with troubles from the outset – it was reported that 11 extras were hurt during a scene – and initial setbacks including German officials banning film makers from using military sites because of […]

Recharge yourself

Cheery brand Firefly Tonics have come up with a new flavoured tonic to wipe away the January blues. Set up by school chums Harry Briggs and Marcus Waley-Cohen each of these chilled, glass bottles contains 2.5 grams of herbal extracts and absolutely no artificial nasties. Recharge comes in a slick, silver bottle (the message here is ‘life’s all about silver linings’) in fact you’ll probably feel rather cool, if a little smug carrying this bottle around with you as you swagger into work. So let’s talk you through the intricacies of what makes this tonic better than its competitors. It […]

Clubs look Overseas

To combat the collapse of the pound private member’s clubs are looking overseas to secure membership in 2009. Following the influx of Europeans travelling to the UK taking advantage of the strength of the Euro against the pound it appears that private member’s clubs are expanding their membership offers in order to keep themselves afloat. One Alfred Place is one private member’s club leading the way: ‘Since the market point has weakened, we’ve had a steady increase in overseas enquiries and we expect this to grow throughout 2009,’ says owner Rob Shreeve. The club provides a discrete and luxurious location […]
