Free Charity Fitness Class at Psycle London

There are some ‘national’ days and months that we could do without, purely created for the sake of sales, (cynical but true), but there’s one cause that is taking place in March that we are fully on board with: Brain Tumour Awareness Month. You probably didn’t know that 11,000 people a year will be diagnosed with a brain tumour, that’s 30 people a day. Or that brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under 40. Yet The Brain Tumour Charity knows that less than 2% of cancer research funding in the UK is spent researching into […]

The Hotel Giving Out Free Rooms For National Napping Day

You know what I never appreciated as a child? Naps. Quite easily one of the best free things in life. Now, when I’m desperate for an extra hour or two it’s a bit harder, apparently, it’s not acceptable to set up camp at your desk with a pillow and eye mask. And you know when you’ve really reached your peak when the weekend excites you because your afternoon plans will include at least one nap. I am at this peak. DoubleTree by Hilton know that the struggle is real because this Monday they are offering free napping rooms, so that […]

Dabbous Legends Set Up New Restaurant

Dabbous is one of the restaurant success stories of the past few years, and right now all eyes are on Ollie Dabbous as he launches his new project. But there’s another Dabbous launch happening. The powerhouse behind the unstoppable Dabbous train was always Ross Gibbens and Michael Kennedy, the Head Chef and his Sous Chef at the Michelin Starred restaurant, and so it’s significant that the pair have teamed up to open Wellbourne Brasserie in White City. Arriving in White City Place, the central hub to the former Television Centre site, the brasserie will serve an all-day dining menu the menu will include […]

Skylight at Tobacco Dock Returns for Summer

Amidst talks of the Beast of the East Part 3 and yellow snow ice warnings, we have some news which is a little sunnier, at least we hope by the time it opens it’s sunnier, if not we will be moving The Handbook HQ somewhere hotter (yeah, we’re threatening you weather). On the 3rd May, Skylight at Tobacco Dock will be reopening for another summer season, following it being home to the only rooftop ice rink last winter. The three floors will be filled with bars, street food, croquet, pétanque, DJs, live entertainment and big screens which will be showing […]

The Great Fruitcake Debate: Is It Okay For Harry And Meghan To Have A Lemon Wedding Cake?

Stop the presses! This is seriously important news. Like, properly important. Stand aside Brexit, pipe-down Putin, this is important shizz. Harry and Meghan have chosen their wedding cake… and it’s not fruitcake. The lemon and elderflower number they’ve gone with is courtesy of East London’s Violet Bakery, owned by Meghan Markle’s Californian pal Claire Ptak. Covered with buttercream and decorated with fresh flowers, the cake is a serious break with royal tradition, where fruitcakes has reigned since Queen Victoria’s wedding. Which sparked a high-brow and serious argument in The Handbook office. Is it alright to ditch traditional fruitcake for a wedding? […]

Write a Poem, Get Free Coffee

Why is it, that we love music and we love reading, but poetry which is the stepping stone between the two just doesn’t seem to appeal so much? Maybe because it conjures up memories of rote learning Wordsworth in the class room, the whole room monotonously wandering lonely as a cloud. And even now we can’t remember the whole verse yet play us a song we last heard in 1996 we’ll know it perfectly. We bet then, that you didn’t know that today (21st March) is World Poetry Day and that if you write a poem today you can get […]
