9 Cool Things To Do This Weekend
We’re getting hints of what summer is going to look like, and the weekends are getting sunnier and merrier as we inch towards June. (Don’t come at us if there’s a downpour).
With that, we’ve got some great stuff on this weekend with food and wine festivals on the cards, a pawsome weekend getaway specially for canines (humans, secondary) and pop-ups and exhibitions for the fashion forward. Here’s our picks of what to do this weekend:
1. Attend a wine festival
Choose between over 350 wines to taste, chat with more than 100 producers from around the world and explore artisan food stands at the Laithwaites Wine Festival, an unmissable event for foodies and wine lovers. Don’t miss a visit to the food hub stage, where produce of Laithwaites food partners will be matched to their wines. Also, grab a glass and your partner and shake a leg at the silent disco aptly titled, ‘Merlot on the dance floor’.
When: 17th and 18th May
Where: Kensington (Olympia)

2. Take your dog to Goodwoof
A Labrador parade, dog yoga (sorry, DOGA), woodland walks, world-class competition from top canine athletes and lots more await at Goodwoof, a two-day canine retreat. Taking place against the backdrop of The Kennels at the Goodwood Estate, Goodwoof is all about spending time with your dog, meeting other dog parents and having a great time (with plenty of treats available throughout the weekend – for humans and canines). There’s a dog disco where dogs are encouraged to wag their tails to the beat, a have-a-go area for canines to learn new tricks and a chance to show off your dog’s long jump skills at The Goodwoof Games. Dog parents, this is the perfect place for you.
When: 18th and 19th May
Where: The Kennels, Goodwood, Chichester, West Sussex

3. A pop-up that puts health first
A travelling pop-up that’s all about providing a space for emerging food, drinks, wellness, nutrition and beauty products for conscious consumers, raye the store is celebrating its 10th London location with a spring pop-up. Landing in Soho, there will be herbal teas, antioxidants, award-winning sauces and oils for your pantry, matcha and coconut drinks and lots more.

4. Take the kids for afternoon tea
Pan Pacific’s afternoon tea features sweet treats and finger sandwiches alongside the chance to take a dip in the hotel’s infinity pool. The SENSORY floor at the hotel features a completely transformed pool area in partnership with Bonpoint, featuring bright spring colours on display, deckchairs, parasols and themed pool floats for the kids. There are also spa treatments available for parent-child duos to make it a great day out for the family.

5. Attend a textile workshop
Participate in creative textile and repair workshops at this pop-up in partnership with fashion designer Phoebe English. Attendees will explore a seven-piece capsule collection that has been created using returned or damaged garments and fabric. Each piece has been reimagined using patchwork, weaving, deconstructing and Phoebe’s signature pattern-cutting techniques.
When: 17th to 27th May
Where: Barbican, Silk Street

6. Explore fashion and identity at this exhibition
This exhibition at the Tate sheds light on artist John Singer Sargent’s portraits, exploring how he worked like a stylist to craft the image of the sitters he painted. Costume was central to his work as is demonstrated in the portraits you’ll get to see. A casual dress strap falling, a coat that hugs tighter than usual – his sartorial choices often allowed him to express his artistic vision and makes a striking exhibition for anyone interested in the intersection of fashion, art and identity.

7. London’s highest outdoor Pilates class
For the very first time, The O2 is hosting an outdoor pilates class on its roofwalk to mark Mental Health Awareness Week. Held in association with The O2’s official charity, YoungMinds, all profits from the classes will be donated to the charity. Conducted by London’s Exhale pilates studio, the session includes a guided climb up and over and roof with a 20-minute pilates class at the top.

8. Visit the planetarium
England’s skies have been in the news for things other than the rain. We are, of course, talking about the spectacular visit from the Northern Lights that most of the country got to see. While sightings in London were not as clear as in the North, if you’d like to learn more about the sky, now is a great time to visit the Royal Observatory Greenwich for a live planetarium show presented by an astronomer. Everything from constellations to meteor showers are to be expected!
