Calling All Carnivores! These Are London’s Best Steak Restaurants
We’ve eaten our way through a lot of different cuisines here at The Handbook: Indian, Japanese, Mexican, Peruvian, Chinese… You name it, we’ve gobbled it down. But sometimes, nothing beats a classic steak. And thankfully (as any sirloin-savouring meat-lover will know), London has some of the best steak restaurants in the country.
From blow-out meals and the best wagyu in the city, to steak with a side of river views and purse-friendly lunches – here’s where to go if you’re mad about meat.

Hawksmoor
Hawksmoor is the standard by which every other steak in London will be judged. And rightly so. Hawksmoor’s formula – of sourcing only the very best British beef, and recruiting the best steak chefs to prepare it – is a real success. With knowledgeable waiting staff to help you pick the right steak, you really can’t go wrong.
From T-bone and Chateaubriand, to prime rib and porterhouse, Hawksmoor’s got it all. And you would be nuts not order the creamed spinach, triple-cooked chips and macaroni cheese on the side – all to be gobbled by the bucketful (if I had my way) and washed down with their signature Shaky Pete’s Ginger Brew. The best steak in the capital, in my humble opinion.

Flat Iron
On the hunt for a chic, industrial-style steak restaurant that won’t break the bank? Flat Iron is the spot for you. Founded in Shoreditch in 2012, the restaurant has expanded to twelve locations across London, each offering the signature Flat Iron steak for just £13.
Made from a lesser-known cut of beef that’s both flavourful and affordable, it’s prepared using a combination of sous-vide and super-hot searing for a tender, juicy result. Make sure to pair it with some of the restaurant’s signature beef dripping chips and the roast aubergine with tomato, basil, and mozzarella.
