Gucci has launched a hand-made couture collection, Gucci Premiere, which debuted at the Cannes Film Festival last Wednesday. Clients can now enjoy gowns inspired by Audrey Hepburn from her Breakfast at Tiffany’s fame or with a twist from Luchino Visconti’s The Leopard. The twice yearly capsule collections will be created in Paris (giving the brand some much needed chutzpa in my opinion) and special, on request gowns will be crafted by master embroiders and seamstresses. Needless to say Frida Giannini was quick to point out that the house will remain true to its ready-to-wear roots and that they will not being showing couture collections during the regular season.
Following whispers at the beginning of the year of such a line from the Italian luxury fashion house, Salma Hayek confirmed it this week when she stepped out in a one-shouldered burgundy number at the opening night of the Cannes Film Festival.
