Christmas at Alain Ducasse

A few years ago, someone decided to take a stand against the notoriously lacklustre Christmas cracker – after all, a paper hat can only have limited entertainment value. The result was a new market niche for the ultimate in luxury crackers, beautiful gilded creations that hide infinite possibilities for teeny tiny supergifts.

In the case of masterchef Alain Ducasse, the crackers on offer at his three Michelin-starred restaurant at the London Dorchester are the hiding place for a range of his most coveted and well-guarded recipes, including his infamous Rhum Baba. Foodies won't be the only ones rejoicing, as three very lucky golden crackers will open to reveal tickets for entry into an exclusive raffle – top prize being two nights of blissful R'n'R at Ducasse's own Tuscan country pile.

If you needed further convincing to visit the Mayfair hotspot, pastry chef Angelo Ercolano has revamped the kitchen's infamous macaroons for the festive season – think rich orange, decadent chocolate and citrus gold, all packed into the beautifully light bitesize morsels.

The restaurant is offering some exclusive chances for Christmas day and New Year's Eve dining, at both the much-loved Table Lumière (with complimentary Hermès gifts for female guests) and in the gorgeous private rooms, the Salon Privé and Salon Park Lane. With a menu featuring the ultimate in ingredients including white truffle and caviar, and a sommelier on hand to tantalize your tastebuds, it will surely be a very happy way to see in your new year.
