It’s one of the most classic hotel buildings in Paris, the height of French elegance. Teamed with one of the most innovative and pioneering European design houses, could this be the chicest interiors collaboration of the year?
Maison Martin Margiela will be taking on the mighty renovation and interior design of the hotel Maison Champs-Elysées, which has stood in the heart of the city since the nineteenth century when it was built for the Duchess de Rivoli. Bernadette Chevallier from the Exclusive Hotels group for Maison Champs-Elysées said of the project, “We are aiming at a luxurious yet relaxed place where purity of forms is matched with amazing detailing, in a corner of Paris which gathers all the most prestigious French couture houses.”
Indeed in one of the world’s fashion hot-spots it is perhaps unsurprising that a fashion house should take on such a design challenge. Undoubtedly the fash pack will be battling over its top suites come Fashion Week… Margiela was unspecific about his plans when talking to the press, but the essence of his brand is likely to shine through: “Maison Martin Margiela creates a theatrical environment where reality and trompe-l’oeil are mixing together. The result is several sets with intertwined references giving an atypical ambiance harmoniously opposing past and present”. To simplify in three words: Fabulous. Go. See.
