How could we ever forget the furor caused by the release of the Galaxy dress in 2005? It was the ultimate win for French designer Roland Mouret, whose name gained household status overnight, and whose design became one of the most imitated figure-grabbing shapes on the British high street. Having endured a long battle for the rights to the company name and archive, Mouret is back with a major bang this Fashion Week – not on the catwalk, but on Carlos Place in Mayfair, where he is proudly establishing a London outpost.
Mouret’s legal triumph means that the infamous Galaxy is being reissued, allowing fans who missed out last time to pour themselves into the flattering lines of the dress. The store, or ‘maison’ as it was intended, is as luxurious and beautiful as one would expect from Mouret, and encompasses not only the ready-to-buy collections for both men and women but the workrooms and showroom also, allowing the designer complete control over his regained empire. His fall/winter collection will be shown in Paris on March 4.
