Rosettes for Dego

4th February 2011

“Dego, the new Italian restaurant and degustation bar on Great Portland Street may be only three months old but it’s already been rewarded with two AA rosettes and is fast becoming a mecca for lovers of authentic Italian food and wine.

The street level urban-style bar serves high quality wines by glass, freshly cut charcuterie and unusual cheeses while the a-la-carte restaurant downstairs is all timeless elegance in black lacquer and leather-textured mosaic tiles.

Food takes its inspiration from Vicenza and Venice in North East Italy and head chef Dario Schiavo interprets classics Ravioli di zucca, taleggio e amaretti as Ravioli filled with pumpkin and taleggio cheese dusted with crushed amaretti, and Filetto di maialino da latte as Paper wrapped suckling pig fillet with bacon served with a reduction of Barolo sauce.

His Semifreddo alle rose (rose parfait made with real rose petals) has developed quite a following and  this ingenuity alongside quality ingredients like 72 months aged Parmesan ensure his cuisine stands out from the crowd.
