The Handbook

Set in 850 acres of dramatic Scottish countryside, with one of the most coveted golf courses and home to Andrew Fairlie’s 2 Michelin star restaurant, Gleneagles really has it all and that’s before you’ve mentioned the multi award-winning spa…

As soon as you enter the spa you know you are in good hands.  Upon arriving you feel like you have dipped into a sanctuary situated in the beautiful Perthshire hills.  With a selection of rooms in which to unwind, either naturally lit courtyards with plants and calming water or darker relaxation rooms with beds, blankets, magazines and a selection of healthy food and teas, they are the perfect pre or post treatment places to rest, taking you a world away from the busy pace of London.

With heat experiences from their saunas and crystal steam rooms, the vitality  pool which has massage pumps and jets, and their tropical showers, the spa has a great selection of powerful equipment to stimulate the circulation, cleanse, and prepare the body for treatment.

I had the Holistic total body ritual with hot stones, which lasts two hours.  It is impossible not to fall into a deep sleep during this as you are so relaxed.  This treatment includes everything, from a foot massage and scrub to begin with, right through to a facial, body scrub and ending with a hot stone massage.  The treatment is very much about awakening your senses and at the beginning you choose which signature ESPA oils you are drawn to.

After your foot scrub and foot massage you then lie down for the rest of the treatment.  To start with your whole body is buffed and then there is an express facial, incorporating masks and deep moisturizing oils.  This is followed by a quick shower and then your therapist begins the hot stone massage, working into each aching muscle and loosening any tension.   Despite it being two hours the whole treatment is over far too quickly and you are left without a care in the world.

The staff at Gleneagles spa couldn’t be more accommodating, attentive or skilled and the treatment list even has a selection of ESPA treatments for Men, so the hotel is a perfect weekend escape for everyone.
