London College of Fashion’s brand new Fashion Space Gallery is getting some christening! Today sees the launch of an exhibition documenting the life and work of the world’s most enduring supermodel, Carmen Dell’Orefice.
Using photographs from Carmen’s personal archive, the exhibition tells the story of a staggering 66 year career from her modelling debut in 1945 at just 13 years old via some never before publicly exhibited images lensed by the likes of Cecil Beaton, Richard Avedon, Irving Penn, Norman Parkinson, Horst P Horst and Lillian Bassman.
The exhibition has been curated for the Fashion Space Gallery by close friend and fashion illustrator David Downton and also features new material in the shape of a stunning set of photographs shot in Paris by Ali Mahdavi which were commissioned by London College of Fashion to celebrate Carmen’s 80th birthday earlier this year.
Until 14 January 2012
