The Hyatt Regency London is staging an exhibition called Making Waves: International Contemporary Art from the Saatchi Gallery. The show, displayed throughout the hotel’s lobby and restaurant areas, features works by artists from the UK, the US, Germany, Poland, Tunisia, Democratic Republic of Congo, India and South Korea. With The Olympics in mind, there is also a sporting theme at play including Scottish artist Lucy McKenzie’s large-scale painting of gymnast Olga Korbut and South Korean artist Jin Myerson’s painting of a cycling race and Congolese artist Kura Shomali’s homage to Muhammad Ali. And finally, in honour of The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, visitors will be welcomed by British artist Chris Levine’s portrait of HM The Queen – created while HM was resting during an extended sitting for a holographic portrait which Levine was commissioned to make in commemoration of the Island of Jersey’s 800 years of allegiance to the crown.
