New bubble tea and merienda lounge Lakwatsa, is launching in Notting Hill on Sunday. Lakwatsa means ‘to chill’ in Filipino while merienda, in case you’re wondering, is a light meal. Bubble tea is becoming increasingly popular with outlets across Soho and even in Harvey Nichols and here is another great range of exotic fruit flavours like lychee and kumqual to milk based options like matcha and taro. The merienda menu includes Lumpia – spring rolls with sweet chilli sauce, Adobo rice balls – marinated pieces of chicken warpped in sticky rice and Spicy fried squid. Lakwatsa is the brain child of Claire Buyson who is London born and bred but of Philippine descent and was keen to create an interactive experience for the customer: cue wifi (a given) but also cunning power sockets located by every seat to charge phones and laptops!
