In the midst of the old school movie glamour of the Baftas the Grammys often get forgotten (especially as they are on the same night). However, they can be more fun to watch, filled with more risqué outfits and diva antics. Chris Brown caused a significant amount of controversy as normal. Brown did a ‘Kayne’ in refusing to stand for Frank Ocean when he won the Grammy for Best Urban Contemporary Record and Adele was seen, allegedly, publicly calling him out for it. Katy Perry (also allegedly) refused to sit near her friend Rihanna in protest to the young singer starting up a relationship with Brown again. Ex tension was abundant as Taylor Swift used a mock British accent in her rendition of ‘We Are Never Getting Back Together’ in an apparent dig at Harry Styles. Justin Bieber – apparently so outraged that his lack of talent didn’t warrant any nominations – snubbed the event full stop.
There were, however, some stellar performances on stage with Beyoncé sensational as normal and Carrie Underwood quite literally lighting up the stage with her LED dress. Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z’s joint performance was so successful it is rumoured that there are talks of them touring together. After the Grammys issued a missive, warning against too much ‘flesh’ exposure there were less wardrobe controversy’s as normal. Kelly Rowland toed the line a little with her sheer dress while Ed Sheeran looked frankly adorable with his smart suit coupled with trainers. Next stop for awards season – The Oscars!
