It’s a shame when an evening doesn’t quite live up to expectations. Last night saw the Handbook team head over to the greatly anticipated opening of Salvador & Amanda’s second London venue in Bloomsbury. Although promised canapés and cocktails, we were disappointed to see that the only ‘cocktail’ served was weak sangria spiced up with chopped fruit, and canapés were more nibbles – deli meats, sliced cheese and miniscule chips. If the plan was to give a taste of the kind of dishes the tapas bar will serve, it failed. Although we were served some delicious Padrón peppers and Chipirones (baby squid), which are promised to be on the menu when Salvador & Amanda opens next month.
Despite the bar appearing as a crush of bodies (who got carried away with the invitations?!), the atmosphere was buzzing, fuelled by a great house set by legendary DJ Tom Crane. With a stylish and arty interior, a great central location, and what looks to be a good range of cocktails and tapas dishes, the venue is set to attract London’s busy young crowd. We look forward to returning to Salvador & Amanda for some real food and a little more space to move!
