W Hotel in New York’s Union Square has just launched charity project, ‘W Room and Boards’. Former Pro Action Sports Athlete turned filmmaker Ray Mendez (Will.i.am, Lady Gaga, 50 Cent) has curated Amar'e Stoudemire, Cara DeLevingne, Cope2, David LaChapelle, and Zana Bayne to create skateboards inspired by New York’s endless energy.
Delevingne was inspired by an iconic I Heart NYC photo (produced for Love Magazine by fashion photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott) she posed in and graffitied her image, with lipstick, to read ‘Cara LOVE NYC’ while LaChapelle featured an iconic shot of the Beastie Boys in Times Square I 1985.
Supporting STOKED.org, ‘Room & Boards’ bespoke packages include free skate board rentals. The boards are also available for purchase online at whotelsnewyork.com/wboards from $500 for originally designed one of a kind boards and limited edition graphics prints at $50. 100% of proceeds will go to further Stoked.org’s work with under-served youth of NYC through action sports culture.
In addition to curating the project, Mendez & his Parlour Productions team (Producer – Jerry Chu & Cinematographer – Andrey Piontkovski) also filmed a series of vignette style documentaries/shorts profiling the contributing artists as well as a music video featuring the group Ninjasonik (Telli Federline & Jah Jah Brown).
