There is no better way to spend a lazy afternoon than with a good book, and when we say book we mean a good old fashioned paper book not an e-book and yet it seems that people are borrowing books less and less from libraries.
Step in The Ampersand Hotel in South Kensington, they are going to be championing the humble printed book with a series of exclusive author events throughout October and November in their own private library. With its own collection of curated books and emerald green regal armchairs, the library is perfect for curling up in on a cold winter afternoon and losing yourself in a book.
On the 7th October Anne Zouroudi will be transporting guests to Greece as she reads from The Feast of Artemis and to accompany, cocktails of course, which have been given a Mediterranean twist. The ‘Dendra Martini’ takes a Dirty Martini and shakes it up with Metaxa, olive juice, Gin Mare and rosemary.
Following on from this, Rosa Rankin Gee will be reading a preview of her debut novel, Kings of Sark on the 4th November before the book is published on the 7th November. Inspired by the beautiful and enigmatic landscape, 'La Coupé’ is an enticing cocktail made with vodka, apple cider, absinthe and lemon juice.
Tickets are £35 and include cocktails and both savoury and sweet canapés created by Pastry Chef Ju Sun Shin as well as a Q&A with the author. The nights are hosted in partnership with The Girly Book Club which has over 9000 members, and the Ampersand Hotel library is a wonderful place to start your own book club with room for 12 friends, as well as being able to have canapés and cocktails, which means you don’t have to worry about hosting and can just enjoy the drinks and discuss your favourite books!
So this autumn, do something a little different from your usual drinks with friends and visit The Ampersand Hotel, for an evening of literature.
