Following the launch of Bompas & Parr’s own publishing house, Bompas & Parr Editions, on 8 November 2013 Bompas & Parr will launch a small library, featuring some of its more luxurious cookbooks drawn from the studio’s in-house culinary library, including Dali’s, Tolouse-Lautrec’s, and romance-novelist Barbara Cartland’s cookbooks.
Dedicated to Alexis Soyer, Victorian celebrity chef, philanthropist, showman, and one of Bompas & Parr’s culinary heroes, the library will become a permanent feature at the Bompas & Parr studio, and will regularly open to visitors.
Sam Bompas comments: ‘Soyer was one of the greatest culinary innovators known to mankind and god of the hot stove. By founding the Soyer Memorial Library and making rare culinary masterworks available to everyone, we are able to continue Soyer’s quest to enable people to eat better.’
Sam Bompas has been working to create relationships will London’s antiquarian book dealers for a decade, as well as visiting many second-hand bookshops and country house death sales. The result is that the library will be filled with weird and wonderful cookbooks, including ‘Drag Queen’s Cookbook and Guide to Sensible Living’, ‘White Trash Cookbook’ and ‘How to Garnish’. A selection of the books will also be available for sale.
