On Friday afternoon we headed west out of London and soon enough we found ourselves in the quaint city of Salisbury in Hampshire where the Greyhound on the Test is situated. The Greyhound on the Test is a hotel, restaurant and pub offering guests a peaceful respite in the tranquil surroundings of the Hampshire countryside.
The rooms, of which there are only 7, are all decorated sweetly and in theme with the cottage like feel to the building. Don’t let the décor fool you though as all of the rooms have modern facilities like en suite baths/showers, flat screens with Freeview as well as tea and coffee making facilities. Upon flopping onto the bed I had a Goldielocks moment, without the hassle of suffering through the two uncomfortable beds though, as this king sized bed was heavenly. It had a firm mattress with a large cloud like duvet engulfing me in its cushiony embrace, honestly, it was amazing. The rooms at the back of the hotel hold views of the River Test and fields home to various wildlife you would expect in the English countryside. The rooms at the front oversee the high street where a number of charming shops sell their wares like hunting garb, pleasant art pieces and an old fashioned sweet shop.
Downstairs is a traditional pub and restaurant where guests and locals can enjoy the food and drink on offer. The Greyhound also offers private dining for functions like weddings, anniversaries, business meetings and anything else you can think of!
If you want to check out the serene surroundings there are activities like clay pigeon shooting, fishing and several spas to pamper yourself with. The pace here is a little slow for a city girl like myself but if you hear the call from the wild and need some time with Mother Nature then here is the place to do it.
