On 1 November 2013, Carom Soho launched a contemporary chai Tea Light Lounge in their atrium space, which will remain there until February 2014. The Lounge, filled with vintage armchairs and comfortable sofas and lit by a raft of lanterns, launched just in time for Diwali Indian festival of light.
Carom Bar Manager Adam Spinks will design cocktails influenced by the delicious herbs and spices used in chai. All of the cocktails will feature Tanqueray gin, perfect for spicy drinks owing to its distinctive botanicals: juniper, coriander, angelica and liquorice. The cocktails will include the 'Basil Spice Collins' – made from Tanqueray gin, fresh basil, black pepper, honey, lime and soda – 'Tea Alexander' – featuring cardamom, cream, Crème de Cacao and Tanqueray – and 'Ginger Chilli Tipple', which will combine fresh red chilli, lemon, ginger, cranberry, orange curacao and Tanqueray.
Executive chef Vishnu Natarajan has come up with a special food menu to pair with the gin cocktails, and award-winning chai tea maker Angus Denoon will introduce the Everybody Love Love Wandering Star Tonic Bar where he will concoct fresh chai tea potions and infusions.
