Margaux Review

Margaux is a European style restaurant, on Old Brompton Street, which offers beautifully prepared food with the very freshest of ingredients. The restaurant is open Monday to Sunday and was buzzing on the Thursday night when we came to visit.

Ex-Zuma and Iberica chef, Xavier Castella Vilamajo, is the man behind the impressive menu and his expertise in sea food was apparent in our delicious House-Cured Citrus Salmon Carpaccio starter. His enthusiasm for all things sea born continued into the Line Caught Monkfish which had a perfect melt in your mouth texture; it was served with smoked aubergine, macadamia snow and lime, creating an amazing fusion of flavours.

Margaux is so impressed with their Margaux Beef Bourguignon that they put their name in front it, and we can see why! It was beautifully cooked and more importantly, not too heavy, leaving room for the ever important dessert. The Duck Leg Confit was another brilliant dish and was served with a fruity mixture of cocoa, apple compote and wild blackberry.

In-between dishes we enjoyed the great French bar, which boasts an extensive wine choice, and appreciated the lively atmosphere of this rustically designed restaurant.

For the dessert the Passion Fruit Crème Anglaise was a perfect end to the meal due to the light nature and the hazelnut ice cream. The Apple Tatin came a close second with their cinnamon ice cream.

The great thing about this new South Kensington venue is that it is not trying to be anything too complicated; it is simply designed and offers very good food, using only the best ingredients. I would definitely come back here and recommend it to anyone who enjoys flavourful, wholesome food.
